Wanted - Someone to help small company set up linux computers with crossover and network
We are a small company and we are considering using linux in place of windows as an operating system on our computers. We would use programs like MS Office by running Codeweavers Crossover or similar software, or by running a virtulization software, such as VMWare. We will have about 8 computers to start and expect to eventually expand to about 16 computers.
Our main goals in moving to linux are to have a more stable and better performing operating system, to cut costs associated with windows, and to support open software and move away from the windows monopoly.
We will likely have 1-2 computers that still run windows for applications that we cannot run in an emulator or are too slow in a virtual environment.
We would like all computers (and printers, scanners, etc...) to be connected by a network, and that they back up to a single central server that is remotely accessible.
We are moving to a new location and have no existing hardware or software at this location. We are looking for someone to do the entire job of helping us obtain software and hardware and set up a network, and advise us, including telling us if it's a bad idea to use linux and we should just used windows. Or if we should use VMware, crossover, other software, etc... We need to use MS office rather than Open Office.
If you think you may be suitable for this job, please write to us with some information about your interest, your availability, and your experience. We are willing to support someone who will learn a bit in the process, but we need someone who knows enough to be able to execute the job efficiently.
Please contact us by e-mail at biogasin at gmail dot com if this job is interesting to you. Our office is in Cairo and we would like to complete this job within approximately two-three weeks.
