Eglug is organizing an InstallFest in the Sawy Culture wheel on Saturday the 3rd of April.

We're planning on giving the following sessions:

-- Introduction to Free/Open Source software

Presenter: Ahmad Mekkawy

-- Installing GNU/Linux

Presenter: Mohamed Saudi

-- Desktop usage under GNU/Linux

Presenter: Rita Faddoul

-- Windows/Mac Vs GNU/Linux, Showing the alternative Software

Presenter: Ahmad Faisal

-- Security under GNU/Linux

Presenter: Amr Ali

-- Desktop Programming under GNU/Linux

Presenter: Ahmad Toulan

-- How to build a web server in 15 minutes/Open Source Web Applications and frameworks

Presenter: Mohamed Zaian

-- Free Culture

In parallel with the sessions we'll be helping people install GNU/Linux on their computers.

If you feel you can help with anything and want to help us spread the use of Free/Open Source Software please post a comment here saying what you can/want to do. We'll need people to copy and distribute CDs, Flayers, And give technical support.

I can offer the following:

  • Distribute Ubuntu installation media, and repositories DVDs for offline computers and mass installations.
  • Lecture the introduction to Linux/GNU, but it won't be in a professional academic way, hatkallem bel baladi. What is Linux, Why Linux, What is kernel, distribution, package management, software repository...etc
  • Lecture installing using different methods, with/without CD, wubi...etc
  • Provide networking equipments like Ethernet switches and wireless access points to share data during the event.

اعقتد اني ممكن اشارك معاكم في الإعداد لليوم انا اصلا حاسبات ومعلومات واشتغلت ع اللينوكس كتير وعندي معلومات عن الاوبن سورس عموما وكمان اشتغلت في احداث كتير وانشطة وكمان مع اصدقائي عملنا اسرة في الكلية وعملنا حاجات كتير منها اسبوع لـ IEEE وأسبوع لـ Vodafone دا غير الأنشطة العادية

فأعتقد اقدر اساعد يعني في اغلب الحاجات المطلوبة :)

No security session this time?

One of the important characteristics of Linux is its security.

in the previous festival, people showed great interest in security session(s).

If you can sneak a session for security between those, I can prepare something, be it basics like ACLs/ACMs, firewalls, etc. or advanced like stack randomization, hypervisor/kernel rootkits detection, certain programmatic mistakes that leads to stack/heap based attacks, or defending against DL-Injection and hijacking processes with ptrace. Your call.

I can volunteer for installation on visitors machines as well as offering technical advices and support ,

I'm from alex. but I can bring LCD, PC ,switch, network cables, electrical equipments, Cd-DVD writer , laptop and may be a laser printer if u want - but it'll be a huge load - .

Although I'm not a good lecturer but i can answer people questions about linux,free software , etc...

I also like to volunteer.
