Global Positioning System
I have got a Garmin eTrex Legend handheld GPS unit. :-P
Managed to get 22,710 waypoints for egypt from GEOnet Name server
Loaded all waypoints as csv in Gnumeric. Clicked on chart:
Converted the waypoints file to a plucker document. Placed it on my PalmOS PDA. around 300KB only ! Sorted them using sort first. So locations near each other are near each other in the document. Plucker "Find tool" is fast enough. Not as powerfull as grep though.
Flat files rock. Linux power tools: cat, cut, sort, uniq. kick ass.
Used cut -f to select the fields i want.
I can convert them to other waypoint formats with gpsbabel
My Garmin communicates with linux flawlessly with gpspoint
wayhoo.com is down :-(
One more thing, Expedia offers very good and detailed map here is how to (ab)use them.

variables are CenP= (Center point LAT, LONG in DDD)
Alti= (Altitude)
