i am trying to sync my sony clie with FC3 kernel 2.6.11 and jpilot returns "Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND" checking the logs i see that everything is fine the device is detected and assigned to /dev/ttyUSB0 and jpilot is configure the sameway but still jpilot refuses to sync
any idea?

I used to have syncing problems with 2.6.10 and 2.6.11 kernels

solved those in a fairly radical way though.

1-Tried this ttyUSB0,ttyUSB1 You must first hit sync in jpilot and then push the sync button on the craddle.

2-mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0

mknod /dev/ttyUSB1 c 188 1

chmod 777 /dev/ttyUSB*

3-'lsmod' as root, and looking at the 'Usedby' column next to 'visor'. If it is anything-but-0, it crashed, and you'll have to reboot to clear the module.

4-try reading the README.usb in the pilot-link docs directory ,or Palm USB HOWTO

5-Try syncing with Kpilot you need to create a symbloic link between /dev/pilot and /dev/ttyUSB0.

6-Use usbview , may it needs to load the module usbserial and visor.

7-Try to open a terminal, press the HotSync button on my cradle, type "dmesg" (minus the quotes) at the prompt, and press Enter.

8- Try Mandrake 10.1 ;)

it worked with gnome-pilot when i set the permissions on ttyUSB0 to 777 but still jpilot is dead, i prefere jpilot cause i can use the gui to edit the notes

I had the same problem. I use a Debian. To solve the problem, I used the following one: I verified that link /dev/pilot pointed to /dev/ttyUSB1. but I do not know well why, it did not function (perhaps for not existing). But I directed link /dev/pilot for /dev/usb/ttyUSB1 and voilá! It's on! Good luck for you....
