Ever felt like a dumb donkey hearing people speaking about networking and networking tools.
Ever thought, "Geee I wish I knew how I can start my own site, host my own blog, be part of the web-savy community"
Ever felt threatened being online, not having a clue how to even start to protect yourself, your privacy, etc ...

The magic word to solve many of your problems might have been to start learning about Networking, but maybe like me, you didn't know how to start, networking books seem to speak about stuff that have nothing to do with what you see in real life, but on the other hand typing commands following step doesn't teach much either.
So you want to learn enough theory to know how things works, but at the same time keep an eye on how things works in the real physical world, after all, an IP address is a real thing, it's not an abstract idea.

If this is your current situation than this book is a perfect match for you needs, it teach a smart person, with very very very little background about networking, how to setup a linux server and a SOHO environment, SOHO stands for Small Office Home Office.
The book introduces just enough theory, it really seems to strike a perfect balance so far, not being too light, or going into uneccessary details.
I can't describe how happy I am to have found this book, and I recommended to anyone, even those who think they got it! cause maybe you don't, maybe you are missing something.

I recommend you also check the rest of the bruce perens book series at it includes other very interesting titles

Finally, if you think you need more networking theory first, I also highly recommend as a prerequisite to the Linux Quick Fix Notebook ,this netwokring primer from Novell

I'd like people to take this post seriously; we currently lack decent printed books for distribution, and systems seems to feel that this book is the answer.
