  • Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari) just got a native linux port 3 years after its Windows debut. IMO, This is the best freeware game ever made (It took the dev five years to finish). If you haven't played it when it was first released, I beg you to try it now. Download here

Installfest notes

With 2 Installfests in planning and one still in early talks, all of them are in universities. This direction - to spread FOSS and Free Culture into prospective IT crowd - is obviously the right thing to do nowadays. However, the experience of the first fest in that series of "College Invasion" was not very pleasant for many participating volunteers (check slashproc) - even considred by some to be not quite successful.

Commercial Linux gaming revisited: Cold War demo, and other rants.

Submitted by theSamo on Wed, 26/07/2006 - 11:35.

from happypenguin.org: Cold War follows the story of a freelance journalist who finds himself in the midst of an international conspiracy that aims to control the U.S.S.R. Twelve hours after arriving in Moscow for a routine story, he has been stripped of all possessions, beaten unconscious and thrown into the KGBs political prison. Using only recovered weapons and improvised gadgets, he must now evade or overcome elite Soviet forces and defeat the conspiracy before he is sent to a Siberian prison camp or killed.

Installfests and where EGLUG is heading.

In last summer's installfest, we had an OK presence. Many people came and we made certain promises about our presence in el-sakia that we eventually couldn't keep.

Almost a year after that:

  • We no longer maintain physical presence in el sakkia, or anywhere else for that matter.
  • We're pushing forward with an installfest that is not even public.

While the 2nd is OK if we had many public events to make up for it, but that is not true. There are no plans for other public events later this year. However, i have some suggestions about the current situation.

Playing the penguin.

Just some news on the (commercial) linux gaming front. Some sweet graphics there... but i dunno how long i'd have to save just to get a pc that can run it. Personally, The foliage on ET:QW and the release plan of S2 are what impress me the most.

Stop the madness.

Submitted by theSamo on Fri, 17/03/2006 - 16:31.

MSameer leaving the admin team was a mistake. Now we are wasting time discussing how to assign a new admin instead of stabilizing the team.

Apperantly, the last proposed method was to do mod elections then elect one of the mods.

but the current situation is (as of 16:19 Friday 17/3/2006):

  • Alienbrain isn't running for the mod elections.
  • Actually, the mod elections are said to be false as it includes the old mods, while its purpose was adding new mods to the current mod team as opposed to relecting the whole mod team.

I realise that EGLUG is a democracy, that MSameer and alienbrain have the freedom to do whatever they want but I just wish all that ended soon and the community/admin/mod teams are in a more stable position.
