It's misc. stuff about EGLUG, I dont see any relation between this and Eglug el sara7a.

I'm not saying it's in topic, I'm saying we should be flexible and judge on a case by case basis.
this is a genuine question and EGLUG is a natural place to ask such a question. and thus it is not mere noise and waste of time. it is only by occasionally breaking the rules that we discover what needs to be changed. for instance we used to get alot of job ads that where strictly speaking off topic but beneficial and we ended up with a job ads forum.
this is a question to eglug members tapping into their knowledge of ICT education in Egypt, it kinda fits the eglug > misc forum if we decide not to be pedantic about these things.

Okay guys how about we
Okay guys how about we change the "misc." description into something with a broader scope ? Something like "Anything tech. related" for example..... Or maybe a new container called "General Chat".
I guess there must be some place for discussions like this one.
If you don't have the
If you don't have the Egyptian nationality then I guess you'll be paying alot for a state university so I'd recommend joining a private university ... One way or another a private university is much better than a state one ... Anyways ... The tuition fees for a "respectable" private university will range from 30 thousand EGP per academic year to 70 thousand EGP which varies greatly according to your high school grades and your overall performance over the study years ... My recommendation would be the "German University in Cairo", you'll be studying 5 years of Computer Science with a little bit of Engineering-related stuff but it's not considered Computer Engineering, it's pure CS with very little knowledge related to Engineering ... Let me name some of the courses you'll be studying: programming, networks, operating systems, digital system design, web technologies,multimedia/graphic design, embedded systems, Microprocessors, databases, and Artificial Intelligence ... You'll also have a wide range of elective courses.

Welcome to Egypt :)
Hello linux-mr...
First of all I'm sorry I'll have to type this in English because I'm not familiar with the Arabic keyboard. If you prefer "arabish" then I would gladly re-type it.
Anyway, I'm not the best one to answer your question since I'm not studying Computer as a primary topic (I studied Electronic engineering), but I'll give it a shot.
The two options that I think are worth studying are Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
CE students study alot of basic electrical/electronics/digital courses, in addition to programming courses - and so they have an excellent knowledge of hardware and software.
CS students primarily study programming, I don't know whether they study hardware at all or not - I guess they basically see the "big picture" and they're not concerned with the low-level details of the hardware.
CE takes 5 years, CS takes 4 years. It is worth mentioning that a CE graduate is considered an "Engineer" - not only a programmer/developer. They study "Automatic Control" courses, and hence they can work in industrial control - they are not limited to traditional computer applications. At least that's what they do here in Alexandria University. Hence, I would prefer that you study CE if you have the ability to do so.
I don't know about the tuition costs here, but if you're qualified to enter a public university then it would be much cheaper than private ones (half the cost or even better). But be prepared to work hard & deal with the evil doctors :P
Lastly,, be prepared because formal study of computers = PROGRAMMING & lots of it. It's not about learning to operate/configure/administer anything. You can learn this by yourself, or via short courses in any reputable learning center.
Good luck, and please tell us when you reach your decision.
