I know how to configure the LAMP stack. I have a drupal site so I know about drupal too. I can learn and adapt to any new needs imposed by Eglug's server/website. I am online more than half of the day ( if not the whole day ), so I will be able to fix things quickly. I don't travel much so I'll always be available :P . Thank you.

pronco

I can customize drupal using HTML & CSS ( do some hacking codes if required). willing to grips with some basic PHP and MySQL functions. willing to get involved with some technical process regarding implementation of EGLUG's server/website whether on drupal modules/themes/administration or EGLUG's general task. I can spend more time learning HOWTO install/configure/maintain/customize anything regarding technician process of EGLUG's website/server. being able to fix any problem by myself or with some kind of support/help of the other candidates( maybe they can fix it instead ). besides getting some kind of support form anywhere whether from search engine or IRC or the other candidates if required.

I'm not explaining my skills very well regardless the other stuff apache/postfix/dovecot but I'll re-modify it and add some outlines to my technical skills but I'm nearly asleep ATM

alienbrain

PHP programming, SQL, good drupal knowledge (never managed some big drupal as eglug.org though). I'm not the kind of guy who can handle-it-all when it comes to servers, Apache and MySQL are the two things I can handle at the moment. I have good design skills, and I can write valid XHTML/CSS out of designs. Hmm, what else ?

Conceptor

I can handle the server networking infrastructure, the network services maintaining and administration (apache, ssh, postfix, sendmail(if anyone need it),bind,..etc)
securing network services, optimizing the performance of services .
writing scripts to ease the process of administration.
Drupal administration and customization (without touching code ;))

DarKnesS_WolF

I guess i can handel some servers administration like apache webserver , postfix smtp , dovecot IMAPs /POPs server , rsync server and ssh server.drupal administration. and i'm not a coder. hum i think thats all ATM.

MSameer

1st, This is not my personal Resume or C.V. These are not only my areas of experience, I'm stating this here so no one'll interpret it incorrectly.

I see that the EGLUG community will be interested in 3 categories of my skills:

  1. Drupal, I already maintain the EGLUG website with the rest of the admin. team. My own website is implemented using drupal and as part of my job, I implement drupal websites, I have fair experience in implementing drupal modules, I already ported the bidi and lincount modules to the drupal 4.5 API, I can also say that I'm familiar with both drupal as a platform and the drupal API.
  2. CSS and HTML, I'm not a master of CSS, But I know how to get things done.
  3. Server administration: I've worked as an admin for a company hosting a large website, With 3,000,000 visitors per month, I already maintain the server hosting EGLUG with the rest of the admin. team, I have my own VPS hosting foolab.org and other websites and I have my own dedicated gateway at home. I have strong experience with MySQL, Apache and postfix. Installation, Configuration, Tweaking and optimization.

ramez.hanna

  1. i have good experience manageing apache and mysql
  2. i'm no developper but i have what it takes to get the job done
  3. i have a fair experience with mail servers

Criticism

There should be somewhere where we can say what's wrong with each candidate. Like this, people who aren't suited to be admins can whitewash their record.

Campaigning

ezabi's picture

If we allow such campaigning, then we should allow counter-campaigning, pros and cons should be mentioned, otherwise this is fake. If you call the above a mere skill list then read again. Shall we ask about motivations for running?

Complain, do nothing, get your free Patagonian identity.

if the above is not just a

Alaa's picture

if the above is not just a skill list edit and remove the parts that are not skills please.

and read the charter, don't come complaining about the charter when we start applying it, you had plenty of time to demand changes, wait till after elections then start reflecting and demanding changes.

cheers,
Alaa

Agreed

ezabi's picture

I trust the community, I stress on this part of the charter All members have the right to know each and every detail about EGLUG and its activities, no secret decisions shall be made and no secret process shall be used to reach any decision, please keep it in mind.

sorry this does not cover

Alaa's picture

sorry this does not cover personal decisions, my decision to run or not to run is my own, I can consult about it in secret, no one should ask me why I want to run.

the decision that can't be done in secret is who get's to be an admin, not who wants to to try and be an admin.

cheers,
Alaa

be cool, what is the next step ?

Conceptor's picture

From the MCAP:

MSameer's picture

Administrators:

This time campaigning will be allowed.

WWW: The place for organized randoms!

و لا تقربوا الصلاة

Alaa's picture

what's going on here?

look at that quote in context

  • If the disagree with administrators approvals choice ranks anywhere other higher than the last quarter of the ranking it will be taken as a sign of great discord in the community, the vote will be void and a discussion shall start to address the roots of the issue.
  • In case of discord the administration team is disbanded, a new call for candidates is anounced and a direct concorde voting method is used to rank candidates.
  • This time campaigning will be allowed.

this speaks of a condition that doesn't apply now at all, the mcap assumes admin elections are only to choose new aditions to the admin team (not to see if current admin team will continue), since admin team must work together and be in complete harmony existing admins are granted granted the right to remove candidates from the list before actual elections. (masalan if someone doesn't know anything about servers).

but since this places too much power in the hands of admins (their position is permenant, they can vet candidates), the community can express their disagreement with the admin team.

if many people express disagreement, the admin team is disbanded and elections for a new team start, all candidates get to run, and campaigning is allowed.

the reason why campaigning is allowed now is because there is an assumption that there is discord in the community, a deep conflict.

now that you guys have discovered what the rules you agreed to actually say keep it in mind and review them after elections. maybe you want to change them.

cheers,
Alaa

It depends on the interpretation...

MSameer's picture

"this time campaining is allwed" it depends on whether this time = the reelection because of the admins. disapproval or this time = the admin elections as a whole.

;-)

WWW: The place for organized randoms!
EGLUG Admin..

no it doesn't it depends

Alaa's picture

no it doesn't it depends on people selecting the extra option "disagree with admin decision" to show their distrust in the way admins removed candidates.

this is strictly to balance a power that was not granted this time, it was not granted because the admin team resigned, if only three resigned the two remaining admins would still have the power to remove candidates.

Alaa

My Bad.

MSameer's picture

Got your point.

Possibly it's a misinterpretation from my brain cells ;-)

the charter says no

Alaa's picture

the charter says no campaining, only list skills

of course the charter assumes a different situation, but still I would say continue like that and review the charter after elections.

cheers,
Alaa

http://www.manalaa.net "context is over-rated. who are you anyway?"

In that case

YoussefAssad's picture

Then all the candidates have violated the charter. They are campaigning.

-- Panem et *burp* circenses

I am wrong

YoussefAssad's picture

On review of the charter, I am mistaken; limited campaigning defined as listing skills is allowed. Parent post retained for illustrative purposes.

-- Panem et *burp* circenses

might be a good idea to

Alaa's picture

might be a good idea to review that rule though, the charter was built on many romantic assumptions

but after elections

Here you asked us to tell

phaeronix's picture

Here you asked us to tell the community about our skills, the ones that makes us think we would be useful as admins.

http://www.eglug.org/2nd_admin_election#comment-18141

Any skills list would be inherently comparative and can be considered campaigning. However there's a line which we shouldn't cross. If the community thinks someone did cross that line, then they should have a way of voicing objection. I don't think it would be proper to allow the candidates to edit each other's posts :P

Ethically

Conceptor's picture

Editing should be only for non-candidates

Diaa Radwan

Well,

MSameer's picture

Looks like saying that "my skills'll fill pages" Will be campaigning. I removed that part.

Sorry for not noticing this.
