As it is celebrated all over the world, we're going to have a gathering for open source enthusiasts to celebrate the launch of Mozilla Firefox 1.0.

Following is some information about the registration.

On Thursday the 25th of November from 20:00 to 22:00 in the Falaki Cafe at the American University in Cairo!

IMPORTANT: If you're not a student or an Alumni of The American University in Cairo, please send your full name and ID number to events@os-sp.com by Tuesday(23rd of November) so that we can make you a security clearance.

-Free CDs containing open source applications (like Firefox) will be distributed.

-Snacks and refreshments will be served.

-Its one of those few events held in Cairo that gather Open Source enthusiasts!

-The event is sponsored by Open Source Solutions Provider (OSSP) and the Eye on Technology club.

-And if you don't know...it's free..;)

sounds like a nice event, tell us if you need any help or volunteers.

I'll try to be there (but I need one of these security clearances).

Salam,

The security ID bit sounds too big brotherish to me. If this is supposed to be a Mozilla browserfest what's the point of making security ID cards for everyone coming to the event?

Maybe by security ID they mean registration? Registration I understand but call it registration then.

edit: and what's this bit about submitting your national ID number to them? Next thing you know they'll start asking for RFID tags to be plastered to your brain.

We need your ID number so that we could make a permit for you to enter the American University in Cairo which is where the event is held.

what is "Security ID" ? do you mean "Personal ID" ? then what if i don have a "Security ID"? can i use my "Passport number" ?"Student ID" ?

ya gama3a they need to know 'رقم البطقة' to inform the people at the doors or else you don't go in.

bas, its annoying and big brotherish and its being done by almost all of our universities khalas so what would you excpect from the AUC.

suggestion about contents of CDs...

Anyone have any comments on what we could put on the CDs that're going to be distributed? Mozilla firefox..thunderbird..mozilla suite..open office.. Any other suggestions?

gimp , blender , cad apps (if thay work on windows , for windows users ), and may be some chat apps like gaim.

arabic broken on new gtk for windows

Well, I was installing the latest gaim (1.0.3) for someone and I found that the windows GTK version bundeled had Arabic shaping b0rked.

So put Gaim 1.0.0, the GTK version that comes with it handles arabic properly.

Anyways, you should test whatever you are going to distribute first.

I think u should put some games like: frozen bubble, tux racer, liquid war, lbreakout2, etc.

also programs like 7-zip, Scite, bittorrent, filezilla.

and add inkscape to the gimp.

I would say put most of the software that is in OSS CD but give it a more user friendly structure like and descriptive names (ie GIMP_image_editor instead of GIMP)
