I can't imagine such an attitude. Saying bad words in the channel.

This might be acceptable when we are alone in the channel so we can say whatever we want.

But when we have strangers then this is NOT acceptable.

And when we have girls quitting becaise of such things then this is not acceptable.

When the people in the channel know this and insist on saying such words then this is not acceptable.

What do you all think ?

I agree

BooDy's picture

This is probably because of my attitude in the channel. although I may be the reason behind this and probably I will be the first to violate it but I agree that the channel should be under AUP and we should vote on this

Me too

I donno how we refused such a thing a year ago.

Anyway, We can also add this when the charter is revised.

i totally agree on that but there is another side to the issue
the irc channel is our private space to socialise so putting it under the AUP makes it more formal, i guess it should be up to the users to respect them selves in the presence of starngers or girls

the best things in life are free --- so as myself

And what if they didn't ?

And what if they didn't ?

I have the logs of what happened yesterday and I can show you.

People knew that they should take care thus this didn't happen, What was said was: "MSameer: kick me after this ***********************"

this is bad

Conceptor's picture

this is bad and not accepted IMO, but what should we do and how to implement it?

the guy has the feeling that you will kick him out,the bad thing happened and you can not un-publish the offensive words.

Eglug AUP is the rules which give admin/mod the reason to un-publish improper content .on irc words flips ,every body see it, admin/mod/op can not do anything.

do you want the IRC channel to auto ban in case of swear or not acceptable words.

I object

I agree with Ramez that

the irc channel is our private space to socialise so putting it under the AUP makes it more formal, i guess it should be up to the users to respect them selves in the presence of starngers or girls

and I object to putting it under the AUP

I can't tell my little brother (for example) to go to the channel to get help as I think he'll be susceptibile to hear such bad words Actually I didn't use it for the same resone

OK, it' not even a hypothetic

OK, it' not even a hypothetical situation, here's one guy who didn't use the channel because he would be offended hearing bad words. I'd say we put some rules but not as strict as the AUP

The AUP forbids personal attacks and if we apply it on the channel then when alaa tells MSameer that he's stupid he would have to be kicked even though MSameer wasn't offended and alaa didn't even mean it.

I'd say we kick people using profanity only, be it a joke with a fellow luser or not. Come on people, can't you live without greeting each other with curses?!

We should vote for it

Apply the AUP

YoussefAssad's picture

A couple of days ago someone whose name I won't mention was offering pirated Microsoft software on the IRC channel. I asked him not to and he basically told me to mind my own business.

I am sick and tired of the channel. When the AUP gets applied it will be a place I can go to again. Till then I'm not using it.

The channel has the name of the LUG and therefore should adhere to standards. If you people want a place to socialize and play around make another damn channel; it isn't that hard and it doesn't cost money.

By the way, you know what is truly shameful? When I post this comment, there will be hard evidence that piracy is tolerated by this LUG. That's not what I want from a LUG.

Long story short, here's the timeframe:

2 days from posting this comment to voting on the matter. 10 days max of voting. AUP advertised in the channel topic 1 hour after voting closes (assuming it is approved)

Why does everything have to take so effing long nowadays? If this process takes any longer than that then this LUG is no longer something I'm proud of.

Right now, all I see is piracy, ellet adab, and torpor.

no one drafted an AUP ammendment to cover the channel yet, somebody do it and we can start voting.
