congratulations everybody.. the alex bid in wikimania 2007 is already advanced into the shortlist..

i must say that i'm sorry i've been too lazy the last days in posting about what's happening in alex bid.. this was because of lots of things happening everyday and lots of meetings, the main target in the last phase was that we provide infos about alexandria and the bibliotheca alexandrina where the conference will be held if we won the bid isA.

Alaa and Mohammed Sameer helped the New Vision Association for Development with installing a Linux Server and training staff to manage it. (EGLUG had volunteered before to help New Vision).

• every member has the right to vote
• voting uses a ranking process, instead of giving your vote to certain candidates you will rank candidates according to you opinion on how suitable they are for the role of moderators
• the most suitable candidate gets a ranking of 1 the least suitable candidate gets a ranking of 7
• all candidates must be ranked
• you cannot give more than one candidate the same rank

minimum number of votes required is 22, election period will last 14 days.

for a while eglug has been hosted on my old and struggling dedicated server, however there are many good reasons for eglug to move on to a seperate hosting setup, and most important amonf these reasons is our failure to figure a way to collect server fees regularly.

a few weeks ago the admin team (that is the old one), agreed to seek help from the larger FOSS community, we sent an email asking people to donate server space for eglug, recieved a bunch of great offers, most of the offers come from NGOs, these NGOs have boards and procedures and it will take time for any of them to deliver.
