This is a call to all Senior Members it is finally time we elected our team of moderators. if you're interested in helping keep the EGLUG website in shape and well organized please nominate yourselfs.

according to the list of Senior Members we have 28 seniors, and according to the Members Class Assignment Policy moderators should be 20% the number of seniors at election time, this means we need to elect 6 moderators.

وفقا لقائمة الاعضاء القدامى عدد القدامى 28 و وفقا لسياسة تصنيف الأعضاء فريق المراقبين يجب أن يكون 20% من عدد الأعضاء القدامى وقت الانتخابات، اذن علينا انتخاب 6 مراقبين.

as you all know we've announced elections before but failed to deliver (this time is for real and we got the pizza to prove it) so we'll assume the old list of nominees is still valid please add your name if you want to run for moderatorship.

the window for nomination will be closed next sunday the 16th of Jan or three days after the last candidate added to the list whichever is longer then we'll start the voting process immediatly.

for secure elections

this is a quick sketch of what the admins here need to do to ensure fair elections, this is ofcourse is debatable

Two admins atleast must track drupal logs from election time till results are announced, may be setting wget to download the log every several hours and checking it to see any suspected removal or deletion in the logs happened. they should post the result of this log examination even if it was negative.

One admin must publish the log from the start of electins till the announcement of results. complete drupal log, (emails and other sensetive info can be replaced by X.

external user (@drupal.org etc..) login must be disabled till end of elections.

no new users should be allowed to sign up till the end of elections

any error from the ranking vote module in the logs should schedual a repeat in the vote ?

ranking vote source code must be published and available for several days before the vote for, other php geeks to audit

personally I would prefer to just trust the community a little, IMO extreme discord like attempts to game the vote will make themselves obvious (not the attempt but the discord),

anyways oppening logs can be done (we'll use drupals watchdog module) drupal logins will be closed but I don't agree with blocking new users thats too much trouble for what I consider an insignificant threat.

note that in a ranking system the actual order of the candidates is not important we're choosing 6, to game the system and affect the outcome in anyway except reordering winners or swapping to very close candidates requires too many illegal votes, this would be obvious in the logs (too many new users voting).

in the future we should make it an open voting process (ie you get to see who voted what) but at the moment lets just stop being paranoid and let it be.

Guys, I think he who is stupid enough to cheat to be a mod or an admin deserves it we yestahel elli yegralo.
From the way the charter is made it's more of a responsibility and burden than it is a privilege (unless u r a brag-o-maniac)

I voted against the charter, so remember that you don't have to like the charter (i.e. the role of the moderator in our context)

And to prove my point become a moderator, and just ignore the charter completely (don't even read it, I seriously challenge that the list of nominee all read the charter or even know about it) and observe how no one cares.

Except maybe the one who wrote the charter.

you have to accept the charter since it was voted on (even if you don't like it), and you have to put an effort into ammending it (happens once every year but discussion can happen anytime).

moderators who violate the charter will not be moderators for long though, their job is to help everyone stick to the charter and policies.

BTW policies are more flexible, meaning they can be changed whenever we feel the need to.
