We'll work something out
I think 5 days course can be done in three weekends, waddya think about that?
Let's arrange
al salam 3alikom; really want to thank u for the fast response , we Appreciate it.
we can compact the cource and devide it , how i belive that the Idea is the most important point, alote of guys ask why linux? and after they hear good answer they ask, how? , how to deploy it? etc. so, we can devide the cource at tow weeks; 1-week (1): 2 days weekend day one: 1-Who we are. 2-linux/open source background. day tow: 1-The Installation. 2-week (2): the remaining subjects.
PLZ tell me about the cource requirments to start the preperation: 1-the place 2-PC's 3-the materials, etc.
thanks alote Life maker Group ( Port Said )

I think that's OK. A rough estimation, If you can get 1 PC for each person it'd be better. But if you can't, Then IMHO not more than 2 persons should work on the same PC.
BTW: How many people do yu think'll attend that course ?

Waiting the moment
al salam 3alikom; I'm preparing with Netcafe has 10 PC's,i think that we'll need free partition cause they use Windows as usual :P. there are many guys want to join the course but we may limit it to 10:12. I and one of my friends can help u as trainer assistants, we use linux and have idea how to install and use the desktop programs.
if u going 2 use Mandrake 10.1 offecial edition, i can provide it to the audiences. also i have the mandrake 10.1 PDF ( starter manual , reference manual )and other PDF files about linux subjects> i can provide it On CD, if we need to print somthing , tell me.
did i forgit somthing? ok let's do it . Life maker Group ( Port Said )
I think that's nice. I'm nt
I think that's nice. I'm nt really sure whether we'll be using mandrake official or the Mandrake CDs alaa used to build for the courses. I don't think we'll need to print something. I can print the notes if we'll be having notes then we can photocopy it.
I don't know! I didn't give a beginners course before, I only gave the command line part for the new vision volunteers and they started to scream :-)
OK, Ezabi ?

Fine
I think the fact of previous desktop and installation knowledge will make the task easier.
But I think 10-12 attendees will be much, lets arrange it this way, 5-6 attendees on the first sessions, and they should deliver what they learnt to the rest during the week, thus they'll have more hands-on experience delivering the training and come with proper feedback.
Next thing will be the dates; March weekends are out for me, so we should think of beginning of April, also depending on Mohammed Sameer's schedule.
delay is not good
I think if you have like 12 candidates for the course . it will be nice to determine what is the aim of the course .if this course will be something like beginner course with some deep technicals or they are just desktop users (who aren't interested on details and CLI )..
i gave 2 gnu/Linux beginner courses ,on first one I found some of them used Linux and some others using DOS for long time. they asked from me to make the beginners course + Command line session . it was great the course was heavy and they were interested . i tried it on the second course but they were saying "should we understand this to make GNU/Linux work" then i start the real beginners courses.
on both cases i think it will be so hard to explain on one day only
- who we are and who Life Makers (Port said)
- the movement of fsf/gnu/FOSS
the beginners courses could be compressed on 2 session .and it will be fair for the volunteers and also for candidates ,they will wait for the volunteers one week .they may forget what they learned. on compressed course it will be good as 6 maximum candidates .
if volunteer afford to gave other course. it will be for the remaining 6 candidates. and we can take the feedback/questions form the people who learned through the first course.
if they were interested to know more ,they could take a command line session on their place.
if you divide them into tow groups ,it will be easy to determine which group needs more details and which need focusing on desktop usage.

demonstrate the idea
Al salaam 3alikom: I think that there is a deferent between someone who can teach , and other has a knowledge but can’t transfer it to the other. This is the case, I and some guys in port said (Life Makers) have the idea of open source and it’s important, but we don’t know how to inform the other.
And when we talk about GNU/FOSS I think that we have to invite everyone care about it. Call it “seminar “. You may say that this month there is a conference in Cairo about FOSS, why don’t you come and share. Here is the big rock, guys here ( students or employers ) haven’t the ability to travel to Cairo for 2-4 days , it costs , we wish that we live in Cairo. L So, first we extremely need to demonstrate the idea: (seminar) 2 days. who we are (EGLUG). the movement of fsf/gnu/FOSS. How it can help in the development and awakening. Audiences questions.
After that we can arrange Linux courses. This is my thought , tell me what do you think.
Life maker Group ( Port Said )
Time is running out
Al salam alikom; Can we take a word from you,or we still negotiate? Waiting your reply.
Life maker Group ( Port Said )
A word
Now the arrangement will be as follows:
- First session date Fri & Sat 1&2nd of April
- Introduction to 6 volunteers who have the will and ability to teach others
It would be great if you could attend any day during the conference so you cen get to meet the people and have an idea about how things are going.
meeting soon
al salam 3alikom; can i meet u guys in the morning?, the conference starts late and i don't prepare to have the night in cairo. if so, which day can we meet, and what is the time? one more Q : where is the Hotel and how to get there :).
Life maker Group ( Port Said )
morning
morning conference time will be very hectic, nly a few of us can leave work/school to be in the hotel and we'll be busy preparing, not a good time to meet.
if you want to meet the group the best time is to attend a saturday gathering (from 3pm to 7pm).
just make sure to mention that you are coming so the volunteers involved in your project ye3mela 7esabhom
the hotel is Helnan Shepheard, its in Tahrir by the nile, directly beside Semiramis Hotel, its very famous and difficult to miss.
cheers,
Alaa

you should find your suitable
you should find your suitable alternatives yourself cause no one know what do you want to do ?and what is your exact requirement for the applications. if you could not find something you can ask about them on a new thread to let other people help you ,and for whom needs a question to find the answer easily.
you can check the replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux .

I talking about the cource
Al salam 3alikom; I’m just talking about the course. 1-the trainers that we’ll meet in Port Said gonna face many Q, the users will look at the distro and try to find their programs, so it’s important to provide the common programs that don’t include in the Distro to satisfy the users. 2-For beginners it’s hard to compile source program and run through error messages and compatibility problems , specially for Win users (add/remove) , so it’s important to provide ( open source CD ) compatible with the Distro ‘mandrake’ in RPM packages .
Life maker Group ( Port Said )
Compile the source!!!
we have for the course a customized mandrake on two cds. it has the most programs that users ask for.(codex ,Arabic fonts, etc).
users may never have to compile a program.you will see at course isa :),it is even easiest than add/remove .
Diaa Radwan
It's good
al salam 3alikom I think that the guys will love the Distro , Mr.Ezaby ·We don’t have prepared white board, would you PLZ bring yours , if it’s heavy we can type on the wall :) ·Are going to supply materials (hard/soft) ·How many hours per day we gonna study? Is it continuous or break between · my side: I printed " Starter Guide " Mandrake 10.1" does it help? " " chapter One from arabic book “Ketab linux El Shamel “, and I give it to the members as intro to GNU/Linux. I have some PDF books/HOWTO , but I appreciate EGLUG choice.
Life maker Group ( Port Said )
Mr.Ezaby????
Guys, is there anyone in the LUG called Mr.Ezaby????
The only one I know esmo ezabi we bass.
Now let's get serious, I'll try to get my whiteboard so don't worry, concerning the material, I wouldn't suggest the attendees to refer to any material before going into the course in order to avoid any confusion. We will start from scratch and then later discuss any additions, how about that?
As for the installation we will use the course cd's prepared by alaa, if you can get us access to a cd burner to prepare a copy for each attendee that'd be nice.
About the "Ketab linux el shamel", I know nothing about it so I cannot judge it, but I don't think there's a "shamel" book about linux yet, forget it.
select ( Brother or friend )?
Al salam 3alikom; Brother/Dear friend/ezabi; what should I say , :) I'm an employee in the government, so I'm always use the words, Mr, Hadretak etc. Anyway, 1-Don't worry there is no confusion, I just printed a note about FOSS , it doesn't harm. 2-just bring one copy and we'll burn the rest. 3-it's important to prepare a timing table " schedule ".
Life maker Group ( Port Said )

Let's arrange further
First welcome to the free/libre world.
Now take a look at the Alex. course outline.
I believe this would be suitable to apply in your case as well.
Get your volunteers ready with the intention that they should teach what they learnt and promote it to everybody otherwise the model won't work correctly.
As for the location and timing, I think Port-Said or nearby cities are easy to get to over a weekend, so if you could secure a place and equipment for the course then we have no problem.
Feel free to contact me re- this issue.
