Salamoo Alikooo,
I use RedHat9 distro over a LAN have many Windows PCs,Printer laserjaet 1010 is connected to one of Windows PCs, its is working.
But when i try to print from the linux machine i have an empty page from the printer except the first line which contain garbage.
Please, I need help.
set up CUPS
You have to set up CUPS on your RH9 box first to match your printer
what driver are you using ( I assume run redhat-config-printer to check it )
The only way I can -reliably- print without doing a lot of playing around is to convert my file to a postscript and use lpd
it's the most reliable way to print is by converting your file to postscript (.ps). If it is an image gimp can convert it and if it's a document you can save as a .pdf in open office and use the shell program pdf2ps to convert to a .ps
Then you use:
lpd -dfile.ps
But that is assuming you've got the printer installed ( And since you get the first-line-garbage thing, you probably do )
I used to be indecisive .. but now I'm not so sure
huh
why do you guys insist on making things complicated, no need to convert to ps at all, printing works just fine from all the apps I ever used, they all convert to postscript in the back but the user (even the expert user) does not need to worry about this.
cheers,
Alaa

How is RedHat 9 no longer supported?
Salamoo Alikoo,
I Can't understand How RedHat 9 is not still supported although I use the internet after installation, as it were, to update.
this taken alot of time, But updated.
I use the red alarm to update the system in the right bottom of the Taskbar.
I know that what i did is not correct.
PLease, Explain in Details How RedHat 9 in not supported?
Thanks
Redhat announced the disconti
Redhat announced the discontinuity of redhat linux for desktop and gave a rise to fedora which is more community oriented. read this post on slashdot
The updates are still there, But no more updates'll be rolled out. If you have a look at the errata page page, You'll notice that the last update was a year ago.

don't have anything to say
except we got 5 of these at work and they all work fine, whether they're connected to windows boxes and shared over the network or directly connected to GNU/Linux boxes.
this is on Mandrake 10.1, but I do remember that earlier versions where a bit of a problem, so since you're using a very old distro (redhat 9 is no longer supported by redhat and recieves no updates afaik) your problem may be old CUPS version.
try to upgrade CUPS or upgrade the whole distro and see.
you may want to test with a recent liveCD first.
