Strange!

I thought that volunteers should post here, Not to contact via mail ??

I'm not also sure whether senior users should ask people to contact info@eglug.org, I thought that when someone is asking something they might by answered like that, But not when organizing something, And I should that since you are asking people to contact anyone for a conference organized by mengos the email should be info@mengos.net NOT info@eglug.org

Also, Since when do we organise things that way ? everything should be OPEN to the cmmunity and organized on the website not via info@eglug, This is returning us to the dark ages IMHO.

speakers CAN contact by email, this is not for volunteers, this would be more convenient for most candidate speakers.

I mean if you know someone who might want to present at the conference then you can tell them send an email to info@eglug.org which is probably easier than teeling them register and post a comment on eglug.

besides nothing in the post says you should send an email, it says contact us, contact us i a link to the email, but if you contact US in anyother manner thats fine.

at the moment we're just trying to collect people to contact.

I think we should set up a wiki for the event and start real planning, time is very tight afterall.

the moment the folks at Center For Knowledge Society book a place they should start sending invitation letters.

but if you've got any ideas itching you now please share

cheers, Alaa

well i awas having some thoughts and some quesrtions
like is there any idea about the schedule i mean what does it contain ? will it be sessions only or there will be hands on tutorials or maybe hands on demos
what about sponsoring ? someone maybe interested in sponsoring, what should he do?
i think having sessions on FOSS applications like drupal or maybe SQLledger (tools that are needed by companies not just desktops) could be motivating
what do you think guys?

the format is to have

  • panels on the first day (meaning people will take about generic issues not particular technologies).
  • technicl presentation on the second day (this is stuff done on a projector with a speaker and people sittin down, it should be about useful tech, stuff like drupal and SQL ledger certainly has a place here, but remember only 4 hours in the second day).
  • 3rd day will have handson presentations done for small groups gathered around a table.

the topics for the 1st day are fixed in stone more or less the 2nd day they're negotiable but IMO the topics chosen are the ones that make most sense for the theme of the conference (FOSS and development)

the 3rd day is not fixed at all, each company is free to present what it wants, and is expected to advertise its services and products, EGLUG volunteers should present other tools, solutions and techs.

keep the excellent ideas coming

BTW folks do you think we should setup a proper wiki to organize this, or is the drupal book module good enough for now?

cheers, Alaa

Many minor problems. A better CMS should be installed, if you asked me.

hossam if you think we need a better CMS in general please post about it on the forum since this is not related to this topic.

the question at hand is if we need a seperate wiki for organizing major events.

you can check out how we organized the last installfest on the historical wiki
