Everybody,
We will be having an interview with Eng.Ahmed Hussien currently TE Data's R&D manager and previously Geganet's operations manager and TE Data's operations manager on his story with FOSS and its implementation in a large Egyptian ISP working on a carrier level.
Here we will be suggesting our questions and awaiting for you to submit your own question to choose among them and have an interview 'a la slashdot' style.
Teaching Linux in Faculty of Science
It started when Heba (from Life_Makers_Alex) contacted me that her cousine needs help cause she is teaching Linux in faculty of scince. it was a surprise for me that it is being taught in an egyptian university.. so i contacted her cousine she is a mo3ida in Math Section in Faculty of Scince - Alex. University and she told me that her supervisor has told her that she should teach the students Linux.

Is EGLUG open source??????
Hello,
I recognize the title is a bit provocative... But if u compare EGLUG to a soft... and u imagine that the people around are script of that software... then I would be pleased to have more clue about the way it really work. I want to have the source to see how can I add my own script.
I joined two saturday meeting. I met really nice people... But on the other hand I did not understand how does it work really. People gather and then there are not structured meeting as far as I saw. the web forum is as I see taking part of it... But is not it a it selecting the people able to join. If u've a dial up connection...

ID cards to identify us as EGLUG
I was thinking that if we all had a way of identifying ourselves as members of eglug, it would get us better treatment in places like IBM for example.
Alaa noted that we are not a formal organization so we can't use such a thing formally.
Well maybe the sakia could endorse such IDs. After all they are a legal NGO.
Or maybe some one else has a brighter IDea.. if we work out an acceptable framework, we'll solve the monetary issues.
big big big mistake concerning voting methods
I made a terible mistake I've been campaiging for a voting method till it got into the policies and all this time I used a wrong name.
the concorde voting method is a simple approval voting method where you vote yes or no for each candidate seperatly, it is not the ranking system I described.
the ranking system is called Condorcet voting method and it is has many variations the most popular is a variation used to pick on or two winners called Cloneproof Schwartz Sequential Dropping which is what the debian project uses.
I'm Only want to say sorry
I hope at the first the Eglug memebers still remember me, this is mina from alex , there is a long time i wasn't active or appearing on the group cause of some special problems and only i want to say sorry that i wasn't able to appear as an active memeber and i hope that all the members of the group accept my sorry and i hope also that you can share me again with you in the work and i'll respect the work .. and thanks any comments please ?
EGLUG Marketing Campaign Begins NOW
I have (finally) written a draft of a marketing e-mail for us to use to begin advertising EGLUG. This is for us to start distributing wherever we see fit, very much like the marketing cmapaign we used for OUR installfest in the Sawy Cultural Center. Back then, we sent e-mail to a very large number of online lists; and no, it wasn't spam since for spam there has to be a profit motive. Here there is none.
Here's the e-mail: tinker with it, translate it to arabic someone please! And let's start advertising our presence.
We are ready.
2nd case study candidate
after the very successful case study done by the Alex team, its time to start thinking of the next one.
I have a good candidate for the next study, in on of our gathering we where visted by Alejandro, Alejandro is a GNU/Linux nomad from peru, he travels from country to country looking for interesting and meaningful work to do.
he now works in Egypt in a project done by the Italian Cooperation Poverty Alevation Program to build a FOSS micro credit tracking and management tool, the software which is based on the horde framework will be deployed in around 25 centers in 3 governerates and tracks millions of dollars.
PR team for EGLUG
I suggest establishing Public Relation Team for EGLUG, where this team will take care of - or add more support - introducing GNU-Linux Egypt to the Egyptian community and assist in the efforts doing all needed coordination between eglug and society – arrange for meetings at Al-Sakia for interested parties with eglug members and even arrange for workshop and seminars wherever it's needs. This team will prepare - as well – articles and media material needed about FOSS and Gnu-Linux as references for mass media writers, and may even visit interested organizations at there locations. The team will do his best to contact the following:

what about groups with a political agenda?
I've been invited to give a talk to AGEG on FOSS and GNU/Linux, AGEG is an egyptian anti globalization group with a strong political agenda.
I already accepted the invitation as a personal one, but this is a good chance to discuss eglug's stance on work or cooperation with groups that have a political agenda.
what do you guys think? should I say I represent eglug in an event like this one? should we cooperate with groups and organizations that have some political agenda?
if yes does it matter what that agenda is? or do we only care about their interest in FOSS?
Translating the reviews
For the Play or Die team, shouldn't the reviews be translated to arabic??
and plz plz add screenshots, they give the reviews a different dimension :-P
good candidate for an SMB case study
I found us a great candidate for a case study about a en egyptian small business using FOSS.
Mr Omar Bahey El Din owns a business in Alex and uses nothing but GNU/Linux in his work, he is not only a user he is also a contributor.
here is what he has to say about his business FOSS usage
{quote=Omar BayehElDin} As for the linux, as I mentioned before Khalid showed it to me some years ago , and it had very strong network capabilities then , even on the 386 machines ( I amspeaking even before the 486 machines) and by that time I used to have a server 386.
Then when the "rekaba ala mosanafat fanyah" sent me a letter some time ago (I
The NEW CD's PLACE for this month :) ,,,,
we have found the new cd's for this month i have talked to the owner of famous net cafe in our region ' fasil we el haram '; he's realy my friend ;) ; and talked to him about linux and EGlug and he agreed that he will distribute linux cd's , but he was afraid that he's windows user and know nothing about linux but i told him not to be afraid he can join the courses or send the new linux members to eglug .
i think that we can also put a poster like the isp's posters (0777**** and the stuff like that ) coz that place and netcafes have good traffic from all ages and kinds.,,
how we arrange this matter ??!!
how valuable is translation (was No flames I mean)
Peace, I dont mean anything, but I want to know or someone should explain to me in a very quiet way, and without any attacks personnal or any other form, WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF TRANSLATION? Those who cares about computers in general and Linux in particular know English, so why translating? Why waiste our time in nothing... We can help building new packages and new ideas. Believe me I have been asked about the addition we do to humanity- as arabs, and I find it difficult to say, this and that (and we have a lot in the field of science, but you may not have heard about, like prof. Mohammad Abdou in UCLA who is specialized in Controling Fusion Reactions (or the new sun on earth)and who is more important than Bush) but I want more additions, then, and only then shall the whole community help.
Marina's Plage WiFi Zone
I need more info about that and the ability to share in this event ... and the availability to share ,,,

without flaming me please when i last went to buy books i found them like 300 LE for a book cant we put some -pirated- PDF`s for linux certification really not all of us can afford to pay that much i know piration bad
