Why do u want to install Mandrake 10.1? It's 2 bits old?

Why dont u install Mandriva 2005 or 2006?

Especially if u r using a laptop..they are bound to have better hardware support.

Alaa yes my laptop has a floppy.

manal : As you know it's long time i don't know that there is a distribution called mandriva anyway i have mandrake10.1 for now but plzz help my i'm using XP again now :(

ok you can do floppy install

great you can use a floppy to boot and do harddisk isntall.

but I must warn you, mandrake 10.1 might fail to work with your laptop, the graphical interface server (xorg) version that came with 10.1 is not compatible with intel graphics cards, most laptops come with this card.

so I repeat manal's advice get a more recent version, I'd recomment 2006.

also make sure to update your system immediatly after installing, both 2006 and 2005 have tons of updates and security fixes.

now for how to do harddisk install using floppy, check your mandrake file tree, there is an install.htm file that explains it, and an arabic version under doc/install/ar/install.htm

you can find these files on the first installation CD too.

Alaa
