Good work man, also note that AAST is already running Linux Fedora in some of their labs - so they should have some knowledge about it.

Good luck !

i already talked to the Computer Science Dean and he accepted Eglug but ..as a first accept, to be after ramadan and 3eid to manage it well and he 'll full accept it after some management , what we 'll going to present, i'm thinking to not only be an Instfest but a seminar ? as i said installfest is useless as the AAST Labs working on linux and that there is a person as an IBM partner for AAST OS core subject for Computer Eng/Sci students, all his job for the OS course is the Isntallation and UserGuide/Administration technics. I think to present Linux as a History and to present some iterviews with Stallman and Linus and give a brief description for the Open Sourse community and the FSF .. what is your opinion

I don't understand what you're talking about.

how is an installfest useless, the point is not for the fest to be useful to AAST its to be useful to the general public who are interested in GNU/Linux, we did not do an installfest in Sakia because Sakia needed linux installed on their PCs.

Alaa

I'm not talking about the public (ppl) i'm talking if it usefull for the AAST students or not and we can say that students are the general unit in this subject and i'm not talking to don't do an instfest but i'm talking to present something in plus .. like a seminar and about if it's for public and you mean by public ... ppl i don't know how to make a gathering in alex .. for ppl and as we start with our public to be the students we can start by something effective for their needs and at the same time we can make an instfest later .. that's all

Salam,

Guys I think that there should be an installfest first then a seminar. I mean most of the students might not want to show up to a seminar which might seem boring and pedantic to them. At least the installfest gives them the opportunity to see Linux in action.

It seems like the AAST professors are interested in a seminar (makes sense they're professors for cryin out loud :)

So maybe do a seminar for the professors in the CS dept (convince them that an installfest is needed) and an installfest for les etudiants.

ya seminar is a good idea and may be the first step

and if dean trusts us we can make installfest at AAST (which I C the best suitable place in Alex for organizing an installfest)

Hello some news about AAST instFest/seminar; i was talking to the one who can help , he is the AAST Computer eng/sci dept. manager for students activities , i told him about eglug and what we want to present for the AAST and the availability to do something like that, he said that the AAST 'll support our request with a lab prepared with preinstalled linux-plus/FC2 for any saturday from 12:00 till 3:00/4:00 and about the management for that it'll be under the care of AAST informatic's Club, OS course subject and computer eng/sci dept, he's waiting for the Day's instFest Agenda , the names of organizers ,provided activities, what'll be the following steps for this instFest and any other requests ; Place: 'll be at AAST AbuKir branch in Computer Sci Lab. Time: any saturday from 12:00 till 3:00/4:00 , there'll be some info provided by the dept. to the different students' depts. , not of the AAST or Comp eng/sci dept business to act on public ppl gathering . IEEE AAST(Alex) branch may share in the seminar with the IEEE Std 1003.1 (Standard for Information Technology-- Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX)): (IEEE: still a discussion subject). waiting for comment.

i don't think alex in a good place for linux we 've tried to hold an installfest but we failed, AAST sure willnot hold a public festival, BTW still some people there mo3edeen and students hate linux (i suppose not to say hate but afraid of it), while others love it , i distributed many copies about 30 cds for free containing knoppix most of them enjoyed the taste of linux but some still afraid to install it.

A confirmation isn't for me man :D .. ! i think we already said alot of things within this thread concerning date/time , so i mean a confirmation for other Alex's members .. to have the final date and time after our discussion that's all .. but if you see that they can understand , .. so it's ok , that doesn't make difference with me and that's all :)
