Salam.

This vote is totally being biased. I think those who posted about Fedora Core being the worst didn't really test Fedora Core. It is not fair to vote that a distribution is worst by its predecessor(s). I announce my respect to all who voted though. I can't vote however which distribution is the worst. I am convinced that they are all Linux and that all distributions can be customized to look at the end alike.

Salam.

I totally agree to that. I never really cared about the distribution except for the package collection, which again can be totally customized.

my definition of the best distro would be the one that

  • requires the least configuration by you (this means the one that is most closely configured to your taste)
  • shows the least resistance to you when you try to tweek it (meaning it is designed to accept deep user customization)
  • minimizes your need to seek packages, components and tools from outside the distro.

there are other factors tab3an, like the availability of support, the size and friendliness of the user community, how open the development process is to the user community etc.

off course some distros are designed with a totaly different philosophy in mind, for instance gentoo would fail my above criterea but thats because it is made for people who want to configure and tweak each and every little aspect of their installation.

so when I voted I discarded gentoo and slackware, they don't even fit my own personal definition of a GNU/Linux distro.

cheers,

Alaa

I won't presume to recommend one distribution over another. The only solution is to consider your needs and experiment with several distros

habdin, you generalized by saying that those who voted Fedora as the worst distro didn't try it. I for one have tried FC1 and I'd think billion times before installing FC again. Here's my reasons:

Maybe they don't hold now, or I had the wrong reasons (although I doubt it). But first impressions last.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL @ FC it is a huge shame to be listed with other Distro.s such as Debian , Slackware or Mandrake ..

it should be right next to Gentoo .. cause both of them suck !!! you can even know that from their users
