I think I repeated this thought before, what most ppl, is a system with a number of packages on it, the problem is if none of the availble distro have the combination you want, all distros have specific versions of no version at all, of the software you want.

Building your own distribution, where distribution means a custom collection of packages and kernel configuaration should be the way to go.

I would be actually suprised if anyone thinks otherwise like the polls shows, to me this poll result only means, most ppl dont know, or havent really thought what the heck a linux distro is.
If debian was a meta distro, sarge, woody, etc ... would become debian applications, not a debian distro (I am using the term application here, in the same way the term XML application is use to refer to specific XML schemas like docbook)
Point, is, is there such a thing as meta-distro, what is really a meta-distro, if its so obvious that providing the means to make it easy to create your own distro, is a superior solution, why aren't all distros either meta-distros, or some meta-distros application. What is really the problem?

My thoughts are, creating your own distro requires so much work, that meta-distros become irrelevant, meaning, meta-distros provide little added value, maybe a linux standardization process or something else is the real solution to allow ppl to mix and match any package collection they want

sarge and woody are specific distros, meta distro is when debian is used as a platform to build distros on top like ubuntu, linspire and the rest.
