It started when Heba (from Life_Makers_Alex) contacted me that her cousine needs help cause she is teaching Linux in faculty of scince. it was a surprise for me that it is being taught in an egyptian university.. so i contacted her cousine she is a mo3ida in Math Section in Faculty of Scince - Alex. University and she told me that her supervisor has told her that she should teach the students Linux.

She had no idea about Linux, so she searched the internet, and she got Knoppix, and she started searching for anything to teach to the students, so she got some CLI commands and that's what she was doing till i met her.

I told her that she should stop using LiveCD's and install it on the HDD's, and she should first of all tell the students some linux of basics (like what's the mount points, what's the root, that every process got a owner,.....etc).

badly she didn't know these basics at all, so i told her about some few things, and i gave her Mandrake 10.00 Community and Mandrake Move 2 (cause that's what i got in my car). and i told her to check for rute. actually she is in a mess cause she is supposed to teach something she doesn't understand yet.

She also told me that one of the most important things that she must teach to her students is using C compilers cause they already got a long time in studying Borland C (thank God it's not visual C) .. that is something that i couldn't help her in, cause i dunno it. and she told me that there's a group of students making their graduation project about C programming under Linux. the problem is that nobody there till now is that not the teacher nor the students know what is going on :) they need urgent help from us to put a course guide lines, and to teach the teacher.

that is great news i guess the course will be some intro to GNU/Linux and some using of GUI tools like Mandrake Control Center and some command line and alot of foucse about in programing Under GNU/Linux anc gcc ( which i`m really can`t help on that ) so she had to read the mdk docs fast as much she can and i`m ready to help in anything about that but not the programing part since i don`t know anything about it..

ya i now people in cs of fac.of sc even don't now there name , i go to the fac. of sc about every saturday morning to see my freinds there . if u need any thing from in a saturday , i may help .

you may help in C programming

maslan basha, i guess the most thing that you can help regarging this issue, is in C programming under linux, you said before that you can help in programming issues, and this time they consider it the most important thing in the course. anyway, number one that we should think about is what should they teach? we should make an oultine for the course, starting from what is linux, till C programming. and we should think about the materials that they should use.. i'm thinking about mandrake documentations and RUTE.. what do you guys think?

For C in general, I'd recommend "The C programming Language" by K&R, For Linux programming I think one of: Advanced linux programming, Linux programming unleashed "not freely distributable" Or The linux programmer's guide "incomplete AFAIK, but it's fine, I don't know whether it's freely distributable or not".

About Linux to be a core study subject it's not something new , I only want to help as i have a subject this term called Operating systems theory , so i think that i can provide heba with Info about our Course at AAST and spec. about the C programming under Linux, Course overview and outlines , also provide her with Some Course slides and scientific books and Documentation built on the international Operating systems and systems Programming science provided by famous authors and famous Universities ,(Stanford , MIT),some other documents dicussing (tanenbaum operating systems design) and documents discussing also some different open Source OS Kernel technical, some technical idea about different project related to embeded linux, our course is already devided in to 3 parts , (Theory concepts and) , (Technical Concepts and Kernel module programming) and (Linux Operator)

It's a Linux not general OS course

it's a pure linux course, not an OS designing or whatever, in faculty of engineering i had an OS designing course, but this is different, this time it's not on papers,, all work is on PC's, they want the students to be properly introduced to the system to the extent that they may be C programmers under linux so they could feel the benifit of having the source code handy. yes she needs lots of documentation, but regarding this topic she needs linux documentations not general OS ones. so if you have it would be gr8 if she can copy them from you.
