Peace! I have spent some time hesitating to post this fearing of bad comments or critques, but here it is:

This is my problem. I have to use motif in my work with some package. But it is not there in Mandrake. I have tried to download the stuff (I mean Motif anf libtif and also LessTiff) and do the thing myself but never made it. Why don't they add it to their distro? I tell you what, which is strange enough, if you can make the following package work on your mandy, I will change immendiately....Mandy is very easy from my point of view, but It is this motif, and libtif problem.

you know mborn almost half your GNU/Linux blues would go away if you start using your package manager.

mandrake has lesstif it is in the Contrib repository, I've no idea what grace does but just as a test I installed lesstif-devel package and compiled the thing and got no errors (no idea if it will work though).

and it is very simple really, you just open the software manager, search for tif choose lesstif and lesstif-devel and hit install.

But, What is contrib repository? You mean I can find lesstif on my Mandy 9.2 with the extra (you rememebr them, don't you?) or is it that I should search the net?

And, you said you compiled it, great, didn't it cry for any motif related packages, if yes, you are great :)

no I don't really remember what was on the extras, but it probably has lesstif since it had all my favorite apps and one of them is DDD which uses lesstif.

not sure about lesstif-devel though, so you might still need to get it from the net.

Contrib is the name of Mandrake's extra package repository, you'll find it on all mandrake mirrors, it has thousands of extra packages not available on the CDs.

but you don't download from Contrib manually, instead you configure the package manager to look for packages there and download them for you.

you can configure your package manager and add a Contrib mirror by following the easy urpmi wizard

after installing lesstif-devel it did not cry asking for motif or anything.

essential reading for Mandrake newbies, please try to read these before asking further questions.
