can any body tell me how to find useful resources about minix kernel

i mean a comprehensive book .. not just tutorials or FAQs

if anybody knows a bookshop that sells book like this or a site to get an ebook plz tell me

well minix was written for a specific book:
Title: Operating Systems: Design and Implementation, 2/e
Authors: Andrew S. Tanenbaum, Albert S. Woodhull
Publisher: Prentice-Hall

you can learn more about minix and its book here http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/minix.html (first google hit).

you can probably find this book (if it is still in print) in el maktaba el akadimeya (the academic bookshop) in dokki.

The book is also available at "Dar el ma3refa" infront of Faculty of Eng. AinShams uni.

Minix was written for one particular reason, education. Andrew Tanenbaum wrote it because he found that in order for his students to learn OS design, they needed a hands-on approach.

I requested the minix cd, but they said it takes some time to get it and to pass by a couple of days later, I couldn't resist downloading it off the net. Its available to everyone at http://www.cs.vu.nl/cgi-bin/raw/pub/minix/CD-ROM-2.0/

Download BOCHS/B30M (which is an image containing a prebuilt minix hd image) and the recent bochs (http://bochs.sourceforge.net) (An x86 emulator used to run operating systems).
Boot minix from bochs (after adjusting bochs settings) and your good to go !
