View Full Version : Got some cool activity to share with us ? Say it here

MaherG
We have a great community here, most of us are pretty good at handling linux, but it doesn't stop there. We need to have more activities in order to learn more from each other, encourage each other and to learn the only thing that would really help us and our country which is to contribute .

Until the First term exams are finished we will brainstorm for possible activities and their locations, by that time, we should have reached a concise set of activities and get started on them.

Note: It's built upon contribution.

If you can't find any ideas but want to share, why not peek around other LUG sites and see what they do. Think about what they do and see if it's feasible to have something like that here.

My ideas will be ready isa by tomorrow, Im arranging/removing/adding to them.

Note: None of us should be an idea guy, if you have a good activity, mention where to start , infact , try to start it yourself. Who knows, maybe I'll join you.

cheers,
Maher

you might want to look at previous failed attempts.

mybe revive them or at least learn from them

Cairo Coverage Team, started by MadFarmAnimalz

Linux Egypt Programmers Subgroup, started by yours truely

follow the threads to see how things went.

I don't know if these qualify as activities under your definition but there was also an attempt to make a FAQ, an attempt to collect a large number of printed free documentation, and I remember some discussion about a colaborative documentation writing team.

not to mention the Distributors List started by me and now maintained by my faithful disciple Safrout :-), it could be judged as both a success and a failure IMO but its still there.

the there is the Al Azhar Univeristy Free Software library project (what happened to that??).

anyway maybe we should start with something smaller like a LAN party or something (a Free Content only LAN party please).

Alaa

We can start by starting lessons on linux-egypt irc channel.

Alaa,
I see those failures happened because the initiators didn't have the patience.

For example if Eng/ Hesham wasn't patient, we wouldn't have seen linux-egypt.

alaa
you are most probably correct.

this is why I mentioned them here, so that activity organizers would know the kind of task they'll be facing.

but let it also be mentioned that the kind of patience required involves tolerating unsociable and unresponsible behaviour and apathy (for instance people not following guidelines, people not following basic codes on conduct like calling to anounce their inability to attent meetings they confirmed three times that they will attentd etc.)

cheers,
Alaa
