Salamo 3alaikom,

Forgive me to say that your reply was not smart enough ya barghota. I think no one would have known that you have messaged Uniball except after he told so. Besides, Installing the modem on any linux distribution would be the same, be it from source, from .apt or from rpms. All the drivers work the same way. So kindly search in the forum a bit before asking.

Thanks and Salam.

Salamo 3alaikom,

First of all walahi i know that a PM is not shown for any user that's y i put :P

second i have the installation CD of the modem with the drivers and when i install the rpm pakage it tells me the modem is found on \dev\ttyHSF0 and i can't find it

and when i connect using the kppp it tells me initialising modem then nothing happen

habdin
So kindly search in the forum a bit before asking.

If you have searched a bit as i told you, You would have found that you should try both the hcf and hsf versions of the conexant modem driver before trying to complain that the modem doesn't work.

Thanks again and Salam.

barghota
okay i have installed it from the rpm pakage from the installation CD

the modem is working but in the terminal windows it tell me no carrier what should i do

thnx to all ppl who helped me thnx alot

Salamo 3alaikom,

You should direct the dialer you are using to the location of the modem ie the file representing the modem as installed via rpm. This is easily done via either wvdial or via kppp. I don't know about other dialers.

Note: A good idea is to create a link to that file and call it /dev/modem and pointing all your dialers to this file.

Hope this will make your modem dial.

Salam.

barghota
that's better man thnx

the modem dails now but before loging onto network it disconnect and tell me No Carier

i hope to fix this prob 2day w anam w ana metamn w merta7 el baal

what's in /var/log/messages ?

barghota
well i looked in /var/log/messages the file was too big the last two lines were

kernel: hsf_break_ctl: modem does not presently support sending/receiving BREAK
kernel: hsf_break_ctl: modem does not presently support sending/receiving BREAK

thats it

the lines in your log AFTER you try to dial and get disconnected!
what's your dialer ?

barghota
okay i solved the problem

i have increased pppd timeout to 60 sec and terminal to 120 sec
and the flow control Xon/Xoff

thnx all

barghota
what had i done is that:

1. installed the package using
rpm -i hsflinmodem(version).i586.rpm

2. changed the configuration of the modem
hsfconfig
