Grr, I hate NIS.
I've spent 3 days trying to set it up till I did it. Is the portmapper running ?

Salamo 3alaikom,
Add the proper IP of accounting domain name to /etc/hosts and try again. Who knows? It might work (just making a guess).
Salam.

OOps, I reinstalled my workstation, Can't reproduce the steps :(
I remember I followed this HOWTO, It worken on mdk and redhat 9.0
http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/connect/cnis.html
Just follow the steps, and if you fail, I'll try to set it up again and see.

If ur a DIY guy then here u r a tutorial for OpenLDAP
It is a 4-part tutorial about setting up an LDAP server.
Part 1: http://networking.earthweb.com/netsysm/article.php/3088441
Part 2: http://networking.earthweb.com/netsysm/article.php/10954_3095841_1
Part 3: http://networking.earthweb.com/netsysm/article.php/3107321
Part 4: http://networking.earthweb.com/netsysm/article.php/3287491
Notice that it is not an in-depth tutorial; it just skims the topics but it is good for just setting up the directory.
Do not forget to always visit http://www.openldap.org for more information
Also do not hesitate to ask any question u may face about LDAP during ur setup or operation.
Also take care when ur designing ur directory structure cuz u may affect ur system scalability; so think deeply about the design and probable changes in the future and take ur time.
