Hi all,
I'm a part of a windows network, we all connect to the internet throw a windows Proxy, and we have a windows POP3 e-mail server to send and receive emails throw. So how could I connect my Linux machine to these proxy, pop3 servers.

Really I don't know what to say?!

I'm just thinking of not to use your forum any more, just because people like you sattia.
If my question didn't satisfy you, or you see it as a DUMB question then consider it not directed to you and then you don't have to post rude answers.

I think that u ve to thank me and not to get upset like kids.
The most simple way one can do when a problem arises is knocking on the shoulders and screaming for help.
It is not that shame u dnt ve the experience to solve ur problems. No one in the world knows 100% of all the knowledge available.
But it is if u simply parasite and relax and just subscribe to a forum and post ur problem and someone else gets a solution for u.
If u learned the lesson like Bart; u would gain too much knowledge than ur trivial windows problem. When u dig into google u find other resources and experience.
Now whether u come back to our forum or not? is not of much interest to me.
Also a hint that may be useful to u when u post ur problems to other forums is "Please try being more descriptive and give full details about ur configuration and problem"

sattia is right.

The idea is to teach people to fish rather than to just give them a fish.

It's really unfair how when people here say RTFM or STFW they get flamed. Perhaps one day these flamers will mature and realize that this is not a rude response, it's an attempt to teach a certain mentality.

And you, abdool, you especially; your english is splendid. You'd find an answer faster on google than in here. Faster, more detailed, and best of all, it's self-reliance.

Point made?

Hey guess what? I've searched the forum for these key words " Microsoft, Proxy ", the result is : < Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.> so your suggestion of searching @linux-egypt.org is of no use ! and believe me searching google or what ever wouldn't be much better, they only say that microsoft are evil, and they ( as well as you ) make you feel that you have to be a network specialist to solve the problem, so its better to go and learn networking "I wouldn't come here from the first if I wanted to learn networking, I have a very bright network admin but unfortunately he is just a Microsoft, Unix certified and didn't yet get involved into Linux". If you would like to see samples of what I found using google, the best was http://colalug.org/ml-archive/9911/msg00141.html but still it cant help,
see this one also http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/199/2001/9/0/6727644/
so if my question was dumb I find your answer is of no use neither to me nor to any body.

I ask the question, if any one knows the answer he may say it, you don't have to exhaust your self trying to find a solution for me or trying to teach me how to think :p

About my description problem, I don't think it could be described with much words, if you know nothing about ms networking its your problem not mine. Sorry to be that offensive but its a point to be clarified.
See you,

No worries. I find most newbies to be offensive, I'm getting used to it.

OK, let's take this point by point.

Your bright MS admin neglected to tell you that this facility, in Mircosoft terminology, is called 'ICS' - Internet Connection Sharing. This is significant because it could have helped you conduct a far more successful search on google.

Oh, and you're right. I don't know much about networking at all, MS or Unix. I don't run a network. I don't even have one at home. I'm not even in IT; I'm in management by profession. Strange, isn't it, that I know what ICS is? Anyhow, like I said, you'll have to try harder to offend me. I'm used to it.

So you need to know that you'll be using ICS on the server/MS end. No rocket science there. As for your linux box, you'll need to do forwarding/masquerading (depending on kernel version). There are excellent HOWTOs on tldp.org explaining how to do this.

See, it's really about knowing what you're looking for. I got a bazillion hits on google armed with this information, me a poor little ignorant management type.

Now you have the requisite information too. Have a look for yourself.

Makes no sense getting mad, abdool. If you're just going to get mad, then don't waste your energy on us here.
