Just some piece of advice if you wanna get help.......
1) Search the forum... modem problems have been answered many times & u'll probably find the solution.
2) Choose a topic that reflects your problem not "ya gama3a 7ad help me ".
3) Mention your problem... pasting any errors you get.
I don't think anyone will bother to send an email... It's not needed actually
Sorry if I was rude or something...

to enable me to erase it .. that is all

ShErbO
Well, that depends on your distro ...
Again, please mention full details so people can help you.
If it's RedHat or MDK I'm afraid I cannot help you... I used to check out the packages from the gui not the command prompt.
Try to do so.....
startx

rpm -q --qf '%{ARCH}\n' kernel

OK let's solve the problem our way not yours
What is your modem ? type: lspci
What is your distro -version- ? look at the logo/CD's README
What kernel you use the one with the distro or the one you compile ? put the CD then goto the rpms folder and the ls kernel*
What did you do so far ? what rpms you installed and you want to remove

>i decided to install the old kernel .. from the RH 8.0 cds
Why install old kernel !!! only motorola needs an old kernel
and RH8.0 is not old enough , we are talking about 2.4.5 this is moto old
>where are the kernel?
in RH it will be in /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
and the file name is kernel-2.4.*i586.rpm
>will they be rpm ?? yes/no
if redhat/mandrake yes
if debian it will be .deb
if slackware it will be .tgz
>while i am using the new kernel..?
I think you are talking about the old one

OneOfOne
you can get it from the cvs : http://www.transgaming.com/sources.php
you can get the full thing from mldonkey.
ps: latest version runs GTA:VC but i prefer the
normal wine since i'm not welling to pay.

Salamo 3alaikom,
I think that my reply would be late. I would reply anyway. The driver you have on the CD is present as rpm, .src.rpm, .tar.gz or .tar.bz2. You might find the driver as .deb. To install a driver you need to have the kernel source installed.
To install a package from .tar.gz or tar.bz2:
1- Unpack the package with tar -zxvf or -jxvf respectively.
2- Change to the directory you have unpakced the package into.
3- Do ./configure
make
make install (as root)
N.B.: All this can be done from a terminal. To turn to root type su and enter the password.
To install the package from rpm, just type rpm -Uvh as root remember the kernel version should be compatible with your kernel otherwise the drivers might not work with your kernel.
To install from a src.rpm:
This method has some advantage that you can rebuild the rpm package for your distribution and for the kernel version you are having so no conflicts would happen.
To rebuild a package from a .src.rpm, type rpm-build --rebuild packagename.src.rpm. The resulting rpm would be present in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386. Install the rpm package that results from there.
I like the installation from a source package more.
Salam.
