Hi every one

i have a really nasty problem and it killing me

i'm using redhat 9 shrik and i have no hardware accelration supported on my vga card
i have installed the version more than one time
also i have changed the vga card (s3 , ati , ati radon , tnt , intel) and all of those card is not working - i mean the hardware acceleration option on the desplay applet - and guss what ?? i have purchesd a new machine - pc - but the problem still exist

please don't tell me i have to use the ***** windows with directX to have my VGA card acclerated !!!

Sure wer not going to tell u so cuz if we do that a 3d desktop for linux that heavily relies on 3d hardware acceleration wont be existing.

Kindly tell us whats ur VGA card? if in doubt get it from the output from the command lspci.

Also u had to ask b4 u reinstalled ur system.

just because the option isn't on it doesn't mean you dont have hardware 3d acceleration...

try to check glxgears and glxinfo.
and of course you probably have 10 years old drivers in redcrap (TM). check ati/nvidia's site for newer drivers.

/ps: redcrap is now the official name for redhat in my dictionary, it's my opinion and i'm free in it.

also have you heard about 3ddesk which is a 3d window manager?
and opengl screensavers and and and...

My Dear linux users

i'm very sad to say that
(1 st)
i have used those VGA cards
ATI Readon (AGP 8x 64MB)
GegaByte TNT2 (AGP 4x 32MB)
S3 Verga (PCI 4 MB)
and finally Intel 845GL (built in card)(AGP 4x 2x memory shareable)
and all those card's fully supported at redhat 9 but as i meantioned there is no 3d acceleration

(2 nd)
i have already reinstalled the redhat 9 for 10000000 times on my PC's and on my frinds PC's and also on my work samply i have trayed to connect my hard disk (that contain the installed version of redhat9) at any PC on the earth i have physical access to it

(3 rd)

i'm sure that the 3d accel function is not running becuse
1- any 3d game linke those installed at the mentioned destreo. working tooooooo slowlly

2- compared with mandrake 8.1 destro. the redhat 9 is very slow -- just for your knowledge those to version have beeen tested on more that PC and on more than once ;

finally i'm thainking to about install anther version of the x server or the fedora 1 destro but i don't know how to do so - updating the x server - and whice version is the best and stable

Hi

Have you installed the proper driver for your graphics card. Most distros recognize the graphics cards but don't support 3D acceleration until you install the right driver.
Check nVidia's and ATI's website to download the corresponding driver.
Installation of ATI drivers can bee tricky, but nVidia very easy to install. Just follow the instructions.

BTW Gen2 also does not support nVidia 3d accel by its own, or it does? ;)

sattia: Not all Gentoo users react towards Redhat as OneOfOne does. I'm a Gentoo user and I do respect the RedHat company and praise their distro too.

PS: Getting offtopic, back to 3d acceleration.

i need a life? whatever dude.
one of the many reasons i hate redhat (aka microsoft linux) is because most their users are a punch of @$$s, thanks for proving that i was right.
i might get banned but if i'll get banned because insulted "something" like you so be it.
