I am studying pharmacy and a linux user for more than one year (not bad)
I am planning to gather all pharmacy related software for linux on one cd which can be installed easily by URPMI for mandrake or other automated package managers for other distributions
The Problem is most of these applications are available as sources .. so RPMs for them should be created.. It takes me much time time and effort to install one of them (I am trying for days to install Ghemical )
so please can you create rpms for the following programs for me:
ghemical
Smartenrx
ZertisMD
openemr
gnumed
Nut
shrinking man
kpump
I will appreciate your help greatly..

Creating linux rpms is not a very difficult task.
it takes a little bit of knowledge around development tools, and perhaps some scripting.
There are few frontends that you can use that will create the rpms for you, one such ront end that I have briefly used(and liked) is krpmbuilder, you can read more about it at http://krpmbuilder.sourceforge.net/
which distribution of linux do you use?
I am actually interested in this post because I always wanted to write a medical/pharmacutical application. if this is something others are interested in, and maybe we can find few experts that could provide us with product requirements from a potential client prespective I would be very interested in participating.

thank you for your help
But I think you should direct your effort towards
RUNNING EXISTING ONES ... many of them are very diificult to ..take an example :ZertisMD requires knowledge in php and MySQL
openemr requires knowledge in MySql
ghemical 2 require 100 year experience in compiling source code
I am trying for one week to run any of them but I didn't make it yet
Any way a lot of useful medical software exist but the problem is how to run them ..they php MySql server apache web server
visit sourceforge and type clinical or medical
what we miss now in pharmacy is Pharmacy Management Software (Stock management..billing..etc) ,pharmacokinetic software ,pharmacology experimet simulation software
I am working on a Drug Interaction Checker
the goal of all this bla bla bla is to make a PHARMCY-SPECIFIC DISTRIBUTION which contains all the software necessary for the pharmacist while studying and and after graduation but the problem is most of these applications exist as source code and rquire a dozen of dependencies and 2 years for successfull compilation
I want also make website called Linux4pharmacy vistit http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~noel/linux4chemistry/
to see my point of view
I hope you will help in all of this and thank you again..

I have to sadly say, I am not surprised.
I have been around linux for a long time, and this is very typical. If you complain of the aweful quality or the rocket science complexity of some of the open source apps, then you are ungrateful and blah blah. anyway, we can complain or we can try to improve things. I prefer to try and improve things then we can all benefit.
so, there are 2 ways I could help. I can start looking into these apps and see why they are not building and try to fix it.
we could also try to design and implement an app with the functionality but that could potentially take a long time.
to be completely honest, I don't like those apache/php/mysql apps. On one hand I can understand the argument that such setup is very convenient, you could access the data from anywhere using a browser but on the other hand I think this is pretty complex and takes a long time to setup. In fact, I think having your app on your local machine eliminate the need for the network.
I want to mention, another thing I could help you with is to setup those apps on my site and then you and potentially other guys like you could go and setup accounts and start using the app.
Well I hope to hear more from you and from other members in this community

and please make your decision which application will you start to write so I can help/guide you
take a look at pharma stock on sourceforge.net we can join this project together
if u still have windows download medistore from sourceforge and try it I hope we can make similar one

I studied business administration and computer science. I went to school in the US and I barely understand any thing scientific in arabic. I will take a look at those apps and get back to you.
I am thinking we could have an easy to use standalone linux application written in say QT4 that people with less resources could easily deploy the application.
Another thing we could do is to improve the delivery of the curretnly available products.one idea is to make a virtual appliance based on vmware. the enduser will just need to get vmware player from vmware for free and use the appliance image and everything will be already configured, apache/php/etc.
