uniball
I can't tell you anything here, I was never able to get even a picture with xine!
i use 2 players
mplayer and aviplay "currently no aviplay cause i'm lazy to recompile it against Qt 3.1"

jo-jo
Oh , okay.
i have a problem in installing mplayer :$
and iam also lazy to try to face it :$

uniball
Are you still having problems with the picture ?

Hey Jo-Jo, how are you ?

Look, it seems that you need to install the drivers necessary for your video card.

At the mean time, try change the color depth of X. Edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file and decrease the color depth a step (e.g: if it is 24 decrease it to 16, etc..) But still the video might be slow, and frames get skipped. You would better install the correct drivers for you video card.

Hope this helps

jo-jo
Hey whirlpool , how are you this afternoon , already then..
i checked this file and i found many depth stuff , and i didnot see (color depth)
i donot wanna to play in something i donot understand , cuz something terrible may happen :D
i attached the file anyway :o
thanx for help :D

whirlpool
Jo-Jo, at the end of your configuration file there is this part:

Section "Screen"
Driver "svga"
Device "device1"
Monitor "monitor1"
DefaultColorDepth 24

Change the DefaultColorDepth 24 to DefaultColorDepth 16

You must be root to do this, please give us feedback if this tip worked.

jo-jo
sorry to say that nothing changes :(
any way thanx for help whirlpool :)

jo-jo

And i donot know why i have the feel the speed of the screen become higher !!!!!!!!
anyway iam on gnome , lemme check KDE ...
Thank you very much whirlpool (no kiss smilies here?! ;))

whirlpool
Your welcome. I guess your desktop feels faster because your PC know calculates lower number of colors.

I remember back in the days of windowz 3.1 changing the color depth did make a HUGE difference in speed. Not just "feel" faster. And that was from 16 colors ( yes only 16 ) to 256 colors. Not 65,000 and 16 million.

jo-jo
YES , I noticed that the speed become excellent in both kde and gnome :) :) :)
Thank you brother :D

^3aFrEt^
i didn`t notice that the colour depth would make this diffrence

thanx whirlpool

it used to draw my desktop kinda slow but i checked and found that i choosed milions of colours

its much faster now with thousands only

thank u :)

whirlpool
lollipops are the prefered form of thank you :)

please UniBall is mplayer avalable on Mandy 9.0 CD's or in RH 8.0 CD's (I've got both) ? and what is rpm name ?

uniball
I know nothing about redhat. But for mandy you can get it from
plf.zarb.org
you'll need some libraries, Some are available from there, and some are on your CDs
the Right Thing (TM) IMHO is to add a plf source to your urpmi list and then do:
urpmi mplayer
and it'll handle all the dependencies for you

alaa
use the form in http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/ to generate the commands you need to add all the Mandrake extra source repositeries

you should have
Update
Contrib
PLF
TexStar

cheers,
Alaa

uniball
don't add texstar

alaa
no TexStar are usefull, the guy doesn't make the best packages in the world, and some of his packages are sooo bad.
but you get stuff like MozillaFirebird with XFT, flash, reaplayer etc.
and of course the essential HotBabe :-)

cheers,
Alaa
