View Full Version : something 4 uniball

maslan
uniball i think u have to rename ur next version of katoob

1.0 coz katoob now is completed ,it's now the strongest text editor 4 linux even more powerful than gedit(my best 1).

but i really now uses katoob only. & i hope u make some
modifications on ur site & always put katoob on it.
not only at arabeyes.

thnx bye

alaa
never tried EMACS eh?

just because its better than Gedit doesn't mean its the best.

maslan
akind i used EMACS & VIM but i love gedit more
& katoob more&more&more.

Sure not, There is a long way to go.
I have a rather long TODO ;-)
Some missing features are still waiting.

I know the site is outdated, But i always get bored from updating HTML pages and using their stupid file manager instead of FTP.
I'll try to add it as soon as i find some time.

thnx bye
thanks too.

I donno which version you are using, The stable ? It's really old but stable !
The latest development was really buggy. Consider using the CVS ;-)

I hope i'll release an RC this week.

Emacs ? YUK! :-)

1st next time you want to talk to uniball only send him a Private message
but If you want to talk about katoob say so
--
2nd I hate Emacs
why ? it's not the linux style
linux philosophy is to make Very small simple but progs
like dd, cat , ...
look at the gz it just compress the stdin to the stdout
not a file archive
look at tar it just make files to archive with no compression
---
emacs do evey thing from editing to be ide, and has some games
and interpter to ...
it take about 60MB !!!!
----------
Katoob is very great and I'm using it when I'm in X11
in the consol I use mcedit
Katoob is better than gedit !!! yes Uniball you are GR8!!
I'm using the .deb file i think it's the stable you talk about

wrong Emacs is actualy a simple program that does one thing and does it good, it is a very powerful but basic bare bones text editor that is scriptable using a dialect of Lisp.

the games ide features and the rest are just elisp scripts and modules that extend emacs, you never run them all at the same time and you don't need to have them all.
in fact you could have a minimal Emacs installation in about 4.5MB (probably even less if you disable some optimizations).

by your standard Bash is very bloated for a shell since my system includes around 6MB of Bash scripts.

not to mention perl and python.

cheers,
Alaa

maslan
katoob contains features more than gedit
& gedit is in the 2ver. so why u is still using beta & 0. ver.

ma3 3alena
i will wait.

linux_alex_team
we also added katoob as a download @ our site.

uniball
Maybe you are right maslan
But katoob won't hit 1.0 before Duali support.
And Duali is not yet ready!
There are some more reasons:
$ grep FIXME *.h *.c | wc -l
6
$ grep TODO *.h *.c | wc -l
18

Still the TODO list.

If you have a suggestion, A missing feature, Bug report, something you like, something you don't like, .......... Please Please PLEASE tell me !

alaa
to all katoob users out there give the guy some feedback and please try to make him bussy (ask for features no matter how bizare or far fetched they may sound).

you see very month he gets into this phase where he believes no body uses katoob and he should just abandon the project.

then he gets into the other phase where he wants to write an mIRC script interpreter because when he was a 12 years old hax0r dude he wrote this neat script that danced the macarena when a buddy logged in.

so please guys we don't want to lose a decent programmer (hell our only active programmer) next thing he'll start coding in visual basic or <gasp /> PHP.

cheers,
Alaa

I assume that you were able to make your way through the printing dialog. That's really intelegense from you.
The dialog is $317 and i know.
I'm currently working on the printing stuff.
Just completing what i started to do before i go to alex.

Don't worry, I hope the next version'll be fine regarding printing ;-)
Or that's what i hope!

maslan
i'm not worry but just waiting :D

uniball
Actually the printing problem is due to perl 5.8
under 5.6 "use utf8;" is enough to enter unicode mode, While it's not in 5.8

maslan
:)
something else
why u don't make an rpm & send it to mandrake
i'm a mandrake cooker didn't u see my logo
so try uploading it.
it will be tested & it may become with an mdk release.

:D
i will wait 4 this release

;)

uniball
I didn't get it.
It's already in the contrib section.
But i'm waiting for the stable release to contact the maintainer ;)

I can't make mandrake RPMs
simply because i'm not using Mandrake anymore.

maslan
:)
yes i got it
