Salamo 3alaikom,
Explain to us please which bar are u talking about. I didn't get if you can or not connect to the Internet. Try to launch Kppp from a shell (terminal = Konsole) and view any error message in the shell. Copy and Paste any error message here.

Hi All,
I've installed MDK 9.1 for one of my friends and it went fine, except when the monitor couldn't take the 70Hz referesh rate with 1024x768, but it was too late as the graphical mode starts at boot time. I couldn't access the system again as I don't know how! .. so I had to go through the installation again without modifying anything (it doesn't perform a new install) untill I reached the resolution and refersh rate again and modified it. Now the problem is Linux works .. but KDE 3.1 stucks at it's initialization time with an error msg "There was a problem with KDE .. Sorry but I don't know the how msg"
anyway, I tried Gnome, the splash screen appears and then .. nothing! I'm back to the login dialog! .. Enlightment works though! with sound problems, when activating anything with sound it stucks, the sound card is C-media 83xx
and the Graphics Driver is Geforce4(Generic) as the card is Geforce 4.
I know it was a stupid procedure but I'm not an expert yet!
Please help ..
thanks
Ashraf

I'm not sure what your problems could be with so little info, but I suggest you follow few guidlines that might help in solving or diagnosing the problem.
first try to get the NVIDIA drivers, the Free ones that come with XFree86 are not very stable.
you can get the drivers for http://nvidia.com or even better grab the Mandrake packages from TexStar @
http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/contrib/texstar/mandrake/9.1/rpms/NVIDIA_GLX-2.4.21.0.25.2tex-4496.i586.rpm
and
http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/contrib/texstar/mandrake/9.1/rpms/NVIDIA_kernel-2.4.21.0.25.2tex-4496.i586.rpm
now its always better to login to the console first, this way you always have a sane environment to fall down to, and you'll be able to get detailed error messages.
when you open X in enlightenment or whatever that works, go to the Mandrake Control Center and go to section boot and click on drakboot.
in drakboot and uncheck the "Launch The Graphical Environment When System Starts" checkbox.
restart your system login from the console and try to run the command.
startx
tell us of any error message.
cheers,
Alaa
