i have found an article talking about

"how to convert low-end 386/486 PC's into standalone X Window Systems terminals which can serve as graphical terminals to your existing Linux/Unix workstations. "

can anyone tell me what is the benefits of it?

Alsalamo al3aik ya akhi,

I think the value of it would to be a dedicated machine for X server and its accompanying xfs (X font server) present for many distributions. Imagine a machine that has no role but to serve for X. I think this would be great. However, I think a 386 or 486 would not be a right choice for a large network to work as an X server (I don't know if I am right or wrong).

Are there any benefits?

Finally, Salam.

sure, imagine you have an old p133 laptop. You use it as an X client and connect it to you modern computer using WiFi... now you have got a mobile access terminal to your comupter !

hi dear
look ,thing r different when u r talking in a big corporate,
inagine a company with 30 worker ,each have a computer, a p133 computer, these days it may think about upgrading to new ones which cost 30 x 2500 =75000 LE that to be able to run modern office application,if this corporate is linux based it may cut the cost by using these low end PCs as X terminals and running the Staroffice on a strong common server(s)3 or 4 will be enough as the common use of office application does not reqire much CPU resource at work time but need much cpu & ram at start time as willas it need much resources for the first instance(Document) but very little for any additional one
so the new calculation will be 4 servers x 5000 LE =2000
and clients will be the x terminals running on the old machines
bye
Joe
