Although MandrakeMove uses the CD-ROM drive, you can eject the CD to read multimedia contents from another disc!

but how is that done? since i can't do it using knoppix maslan

uniball
I think: when you fire the CD player, they'll copy the required files into the memory , unmount the drive for you to allow you to eject it.

OneOfOne
like it's done in gentoo's livecds.
they use RAM disk and copy all needed files to it.

peace

mmmm
i thought so but i wanted to hear it from a prof.

coool ... Mandrake Move Sounds soooo COOOL! I wonder why live CDs makes me so excited ?! Although they don't work on my PI266 32MB RAM (I am probably stuck with this donkey for 3 more years! Unless people can donate something here :D )

alaa
whirlpool, your problem is easily solvable.

write your own liveCD :-)

no seriously, Mandrake made it soooooo easy for you.

see your current Mandrake setup, tweak it a bit and then run mklivecd and tadah you got a live CD that works the way you want it.

its not as easy as it sounds, you'll need to do some config files tweaking for this CD to work on other hardware.

when I get to make my dream liveCD I'll tell you what lessons I learned.

cheers,
Alaa

anyone remembers virtual-linux ???

thats was the first attempt at a full desktop livecd distro which was based on Mandrake 8.1

the project made quite a splash at the time, they made two releases which I think can still be found at sourceforge.

someone in Linux-Egypt promised me a copy but never delivered, I never got to see it.

cheers,
Alaa

your dreams are commands ;-)

but don't you have an aDSL connection alaa ?

alaa
I'm not realy interested in it anymore (there are two Mandrake livecds to choose from now), and I did guess it'll still be on sourceforge.

also it might be interesting to give it a look, aaaahhh the bliss of gnome 1.4 before the havoc.

cheers,
Alaa

Salamo 3alaikom,

I guess that it would be a little bit late to post such link when by you ya Uniball since the MandrakeMove linux CD includes much recent softwares than the virtual-linux bootable Live-CD.

Salam.

alaa
he uses debian, these people prefer old software :-)

habdin
Salamo 3alaikom,

ya alaa, the request was done by you. You have a MDK 9.2 so you don't need a virtual desktop CD that is older to your actual distro do you?

Salam.

mohamed
I think whirlpool, or anyone may use this.

ya 3am habdin rakez ma3ana

I was talking about the bloody past, it was no request at all, when virtual-linux was released more than a year ago I requested it and someone promised me a copy.

Uniball was just confirming that the ISOs are still available on sourceforge like I guessed.

the whole thing is just historical perspective, now relax.

cheers,
Alaa

tried linux-live

IMO mklivecd @ http://livecd.berlios.de/ is much better, although it only works for mandrake.
but it allows you to use your current kernel, and has good hardware detection (uses harddrake).

note also that there is someone who ported the Knoppix hardware detection and configuration system to Mandrake and mklivecd can work with this too.

oh and did I mention it is part of the two Mandrake xtras CDs I made that are yet to reach the distributors list??

cheers,
Alaa

It is also available at OpenSky network. Who ever has a DVB card can download it free of charge. No subsedription is required. Very Very Very fast link; 2MB/s. No need for telephone or even internet connection. All what you need is to request it and keep your pc on and you will get it. More details in OpenSky or Broadsat sites. I am still using Windows for that at the time being.
