Salamo 3alaikom,
I think that most PCI ethernet cards are linux-compatible. I have a Genius ethernet card which I discovered to have a RealTek chipset. So basically most our PCI ethernet cards will work in Linux In Shaa Allah. Try to locate a linux-compatible label on the box of the ethernet card you like to buy.

beware of the Myson based cards, the fealnx driver causes Kernel panic with 2.4.21 kernels, and the driver maintainer has disapeared.
cheers,

I have rtl 8139 but it is not working in Fedora. It always put it inactive and I try to activate it says looking for IP data and come back with nothing. I downloaded a file from internet to upgrade the driver and ended up with so many errors. Not only that, this problem is creating other problems such as diabling the access to the windows partitions. Any idea?

Adlee I think uve to make a new thread for this problem so not to go offtopic. While u make this thread we need to list the specs of ur computer hardware. The mobo brand and model, NIC brand, .. etc also we need info about FC; kernel vers. ..etc
uniball
Any realtek chipset'll work ISA

do not use RTL8139 if you'll be using ur linux as a transparent firewall ( Bridge ) which i highly doubt u will .
use any card that on its cover back says linux .

technically i dont know , it was just mentioned in the errata
and i read erratas , probably driver problem , cos briding firewalls are unique if u read about them
a simple very quick what is transparent bridging firewalls
internet --> router --> (transparent bridge) ---> ur network
it is transparent ( it has 2 NICs with no ip addresses , so its secure , works at data link layer )
and it can run iptables , so firewalls rules will match traffic and act accordingly
good day
