i was wondering if it is possiable to block someone from monitoring the traffic to my pc
on a LAN

I'll not discuss things you can do as an admin of the intermediate hops/switches since this is probably not what you're talking about.

On a shared network (network connected via a hub), there's nothing you can do. You can encrypt your traffic, but that's about it.

On a switched network, specifying a static arp entry for the gateway locally would be particularly useful. And ofcourse encrypting your traffic.

If the switch isn't secure enough (even natively, some switches can easily have their mac-table poisoned causing it to act like a hub), again, there isn't much you can do besides encrypting you traffic.
