Hi everybdoy,
I've installed StarOffice 5.2 and everything went just fine. and as usual I have a question. When setup completed .. a messege said " StarOffice5.2 is added to you KDE panel, please restart your KDE to take effect " or something like that .. but still even after rebooting the computer .. I couldn't find it in any of the menus of KDE ! but I know how to run it at least : ) .. I mean I'm able to run the applicatoin .. but why it's not listed properly in the K menu??

Ya Hag Ash Salamo 3alaikom ya akh,

First of all, why don't you try to install OpenOffice 1.0.x. which is a newer better version of StarOffice (Actually it is the open source version of StarOffice 6.0). In case you insist on using your S. O. 5.2 you should be aware that KDE version designed to work with that S.O. integration is the older version of KDE 1.x and might be 2.x. Later KDE versions don't get chance for StarOffice integration. Besides you don't have to restart your PC under Linux if you install new software on your PC. Linux is not like Windows. Actually it is more powerful. In linux, reboots are only needed in Linux kernel upgrades. It is a silly idea to reboot in Linux. You as a linux user should get rid of that bad Windows habit. It is only a Windows-confined habit.

okay then .. I'll seek OpenOffice .. first tell me that it's relatively small in size? I mean if it's about 90MB then fine .. but if it's above 190MB .. then I'm stuck with StarOffice !!!
I know that installing softwares under Linux does not need restart .. but after installation completion of SO .. it asked for KDE restart ! so I thought logging off and on would do enough .. but ... so I went into restarting.
so anything above 2.x wont just do things by it's own !! guess this includes me too since kde is 2.2.1
: ) don't worry .. I really am uncomfurtable from M$Windows ! because of the strange behaviors with no idea on how they started or how to fix it !!! plus other reasons : )
tnx Mr. habdin : )

well .. I've installed OpenOffice6.0 .. but still it's not integrated into the KDE pannel!
guess it's not about SO or OO .. right ?!
it's the KDE itself .. so it wont support any office inegration anymore! too bad : (

Salamo 3alaikom,

I think the difficulty of making things work with either KDE or Gnome is the high pace things are developped in both environments. So wherever things get integrated, this integration is lost when newer releases go into the stream of OSS.
