thanks for this nice and useful linke

What a shame!
The document is incomplete :(

SYStems
well i guess hope it's work in progress
what worries me is that i dont think even when
it becomes complete that i will be useful

for exmaple, the section about the X-sever keyboard layout setting, simply doesnt work

i followed instructions, and it doesnt work
something is missing , i dont know what it is
there is not sign sayin that there is something missing
and no hint what to do to find whats missing

the only way i could think of to solve this
is to read more manuals about xfree86 until i figure it out , from the status of the xfree86 doc, i expect this to take me something like a month

i never found a single doc that describe the different components and pieces of xfree86

which part exactly ?

section 5.3

i don't have the this $X11DIR/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/ar
file (i am using debian woody by the way)

this link is dead http://www.arabeyes.org/download/3rd/arabic.xkb

and the file doesnt tell you what to do with
the arabic.xkb file when u get it

adding it to $X11DIR/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/
doesnt work

plus a brief explanation of why i need to do this
step or type those command would be nice

and another thing i know that you can find out
what the arguments in this command
$ setxkbmap -rules xfree86 -model pc102 -layout ar -variant nodeadkeys ar
from the the man page do
but just spitting out command is not being friendly

$X11DIR is your X11 installation prefix. In most cases it'll be /usr
$ ls -lh /usr/X11R6//lib/X11/xkb/symbols/ar
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7.3k Nov 23 2002
/usr/X11R6//lib/X11/xkb/symbols/ar
