Salamo 3alaikom,

First of all most recent distributions include Desktop environments (GUIs) that are arabic capable. There are locales you should install on first installation which can be installed after first installing your system. This depends greatly on your distribution. Note that Mandrake Linux is now called "Mandriva" (Union of Connectiva and Mandrake). I have made some search to locate the Mandriva documentation for you. It is located @ http://frontal1.mandriva.com/en/community/users/documentation. I don't know much about SuSe. An article in the old forum might be of help. It is located @ http://www.linux-egypt.org/article/48.

Salam.

Assalamu Alaikum

I have CentOS 4.1 .. and the arabic looks really auful .. the browser opens arabic websites with very bad font .. and sometimes (el 7oroof mefarrata) .. and some letters are not represented correctly ! ..

How can I solve this problem so as to view arabic in better fonts ?

Another problem is that I can't write arabic .. I just can see arabic .. so, if arabic is there already, how can I switch to arabic when editing a file ? .. and how can I chose fonts for my documents if I'm using something like OpenOffice for example ?

Regards

by the way .. how to switch the language between arabic and english ? ..Arabic is fully supported in KDE, but you need to install true type fonts (TTF) type.

The way to install the fonts is by going into kinfocenter and system administration, and select install fonts then select the fonts you need.

Please make sure to add and approporiate keyboard layout and make sure that you can switch between the languages using a special key combination. It is all there, just read the menues.
