View Full Version : redhat or mandrake

mansss
i wanted to study the linux networking in order to be a linux network administrator ,but i dont know which version is better in networking stuff,is it redhat or mandrake or something else???

i heard slackware is great but i think it will be hard dealing with it as i am still a beginner..

i think they both (redhat and mandrake) r the same in common applications as games and surfing the net and stuff...
but i need to know which is better in networking...

thx

safrout
as i know they also r same in networking cos same packages for networking is found in both dist.

what u should search for in a dist its support cos u can get nay dist even LFS and put on it what u need for learning and mastering networking

and another important thing is what will help u really in learning is the faq and howtos and ebook on the net not the dist itself

hope i could help

Salamo 3alaikom,

I have a reply, I have a reply, I have a reply. Linux is linux be it Redhat, Mandrake, LFS, Debian. They differ from the way of installing softwares, the software packages that are there,...etc. All of them manage web sites, ftp sites, other networks in the same manner (Linux gurus correct me if I am wrong). So for you mansss, you should try and use the distribution that your work is going to get into action. That is a good advise I think. For your personal use, you could use whatever you like. I guess if you are a migrating guy from Windows, Mandrake would be good great for you till you can get over the old Windows days. Thereafter you can switch to RH (my favorite distribution).

Salam.

redhat 9 is good...
i moved from xp to it and it's pretty good...except for the sucky redhat-config-*...
http://shrike.freshrpms.net is da bomb for rh9 ;)

Linux is Linux
I really recommend mandrake, They combine the ease of use with their attractive GUI and configuration tools, If you want the simplicity use mandrake.
If you want the power, You can still use mandrake without the mandrake configuration wizards. After that, If you need more power use Debian. More ? Gentoo, Searching for more understanding ? Use LFS
But i really recommend mandrake as a start and for all your GNU/Linux needs.
That's my personal opinion.
