and i can't do anything at all

can anyone help

mborn
Ok, don't get mad of of me SaF. I was facing the same problems with Mandrake 9.1 and my problems was much worse. I also discovered that openmotif is not there in it- which I need very much.

I wish you a very quick recovery to RH 9.0, believe me, it is better than this version. But if you want mandy, then it is ersion 9.0 that rocks.

PS.
1- I know this is not a solution
2- As a veteran linuxer, please choose an indicative name for your posts, this will make it easier with those who may search the forum.

safrout, apart from the fact that mandrake 9.1 contains newer software. I think that mborn is right, 9.0 was more stable than 9.1. But still I am mandraker, untill someone downloads ArkLinux for me.

BTW, I discovered that my CPU fan was not working for the past several months !! It seems that PI 233 MMX processors don't mind working without fans. Got it to work again with the incredible WD40 spray.

Assalam Alikum,
Hi SaF and All.

I dont mean to say that mandrake is bad, you know that. In fact for any one who wants to have a linux distro he should start with it.
But owing to my work, and noticing that I was less than a newbie to linux....I would have hone into a vacous circle if I started my linux experience with mandy because of my IGNORANCE with linux.
Mandrake is a 100% right choice, but I was lucky to start with RH 7.0 for my work, thats it.
As for 9.1 or 9.0, yes I still says that I can't (couldn't) make it work. The KDE I mean. I remember I promissed Sattia to send him the error reprot I had. But it was too long and very large and I could not copy it (I was out without a window manager, KED did not work) and so I think he will have to wait.

Now I have 2 questions,
1- What is the uptime? is that the max time it can work without rebooting? in that case I rovk you all...I had it working for 21 days making calculations.
2-whirlpool, what is WD40 spray?

we bought from 3 weeks a digital satellite reciever (Starport T9700PVR), that is also a PVR, i.e. it contains a normal 40GB HDD and record 60 hours of broadcasted MPEG video. It also supports trick modes like the ability to pause live broadcast. I can also adjust it to record daily repeating or weekly repeating shows. It is very impresive, but my only problem is that if power is lost, the clock resets back to 1 Jan 12:00.

It is also very easy to use, my family is very happy with it.

Here is the website:
http://www.starport-ecc.com
It is designed in korea and assembeled here in egypt. It uses the impressive STi5518 (http://www.st-japan.co.jp/data/adv/20010712_omega/brochure_htm/sti5518.htm)processor. You can read the technical specs: http://starport-ecc.com/english/T9700.htm

Salamo 3alaikom,

It is not necessary a waste of electricity if you let your PC be on with one condition settled. That is to turn off your monitor since the monitor is the most consuming part of the PC. I have a large mp3 library. I let the PC on to hear music at night. I let it by day for nothing but to return to it fastly. Letting the PC on or off again is a matter of freedom so long you don't waste electricity as you said ya Safrout afandi.

Salam.

Look, I have this very bad memory. I think it was either 1700LE or 1775LE. But my brain tends to stress more on 1700LE, you can call them. There are contact information on the website.

1700LE is not very expensive (someone might think) as it accepts 2 Common Interface modules. A receiver without the harddisk but with 2 CI modules cost around 1200 LE. If you do some arithmetics and add the 400 LE price of HDD. It is OK.

YES it is. Cairo is obtaining electricity from non-renewable resources (coal). The more you consume electricity the more you put more carbon in the atmosphere the more the Earth becomes warmer.

I admit that I do leave my PC on 24hours. But I usually avoid using the air condition, even on the hottest days in the year. I rarely go down town with a car, I never litter and I refuse plastic bags from the pharmacy.

safrout
and i use my feet to kill inscets instead of spray :)

unfortunatly, no. But there is a guy who is supposed to get the technical documentation of the STi5518 processor from ST Japan and start making it speak opensource. It will be very exciting since this chip can do DVD in addition to the DVB functionality. Imagine putting an IDE DVD player as slave to the HDD and have the ultimate media box. I placed a link on previous post to the technical specification of the STi5518.
