i totally agree with the php + mysql part but as for kwrite it is still missing some features that people need among them is a good ms offce import filters......
so i think open office is better

MS Office importing should not be a criteria to compare Office suits. I am not defending KWrite in particular, but it is unfair.
alaa
unfortunatly its the only featuer people care about.

As a result consider spending some time in re-editing those files to open formats that are gaurnteed to work on any platform in the future.
To rephrase it, spending time in learning opensource software. Or spending time in converting closed source data into open. Is time well spent. You will ensure that both what you have learned and what you have converted will stand the test of time.
That is why, I am irritated by questions about Crossover office or any form of getting MS products to work onto linux.

well ... how often do you think you can face
such a problem.
Personally, I never needed to keep a word file
longer then few months
If you are doing anything more serious
you should consider
html / docbook / latex / pdf / ps
Betting on any word processor even an open source
one would be a bad choice

what is docbook?

If I understood correctly
docbook, is a markup language for creating
documents.
the definition of this language existed in it's
documentation.
you learn this markup lang, use it to write
a document.
use another tool to transfor this document
to many output formart
pdf , ps or translate it to html !!!
docbook exist in two varieties sgml/docbook
and xml/docbook
forget about sgml docbook
xml and sgml are definitions of markup language
that were used to create the docbook defintion
ya3ni xml tell how to markup
docbook, tell you the meaning of a markup entity
based on how xml says
a tool tranform this document into a more useful
format
i hope i made sense !!!
