ali_m
Asslamo Alaikom,
I installed the MPlayer and every thing works fine, but, I could not run the audio that ends with (ram, wav, dat)!!! And that's disappointing to me.
Is there any way that i can configure the media player to run the above mentioned extentins?
Thanks for the help.
maslan
use xmms for playing wav files but 4 the ram files download realplayer for linux or run it by wine

Thank U again. I downloaded the real player from the link U put in UR reply but i could'nt install by the RPM installer and did not run by it's self the normal way, So, what is the right way to install ? If U do not mind, please.

In addition to that, my operating system is not mentioned in that sight. I am using mandrake 9.1.
Will it work if i down loaded it using any of those (os)?
alaa
next time state your OS early on.
to install the rpm on Mandrake (you did download a .rpm file right??)
run
urpmi filename.rpm
as root, this should install realplayer with any dependencies.
even better you can get Mandrake specific rpms that will be smoother to insall from:
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/contrib/texstar/mandrake/9.1/rpms/RealPlayer8-8.0.3-5tex.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/contrib/texstar/mandrake/9.1/rpms/mozilla-realplayer-1.4-1tex.i586.rpm
BTW there are many useful packages you can add to Mandrake without needing to compile anything on your own (including Mplayer) if you add extra remote package repositories.
use the wizard at http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/index.php
make sure to have Contrib, update, PLF and Texstar repositories.
after you configure them you add and remove all the extra software using the Mandrake Package Management tool from the Mandrake Control Center or the configuration section of the Mandrake Menu, or from the command line using urpmi.
cheers,
Alaa

I hate using the real real-player I prefare a plugin in xmms or
mplayer
download all-in-one plugin for mplayer from their site
mplayer all-in-1 plugin:
http://ftp.falsehope.com/home/rathann/mplayer/i386/mplayer-codecs-extralite-1.0-1.i386.rpm
or
download xmms-plugins
xmms-quick time:
http://ftp.cnr.it/pub/Linux/distributions/peanut/contribs/past/Peanut-Linux-9.1/pkgs/RPMS/qt-xmms-0.1.0-1.i386.rpm
xmms-real:
http://rpmfind.net/linux/falsehope/pub/rmxmms/rmxmms-0.4-1rh71.i386.rpm
xmms-smpeg: to play video in xmms it come with mandrake goto mandy CC and search for xmms packages and install it
I put them in my best downloads www.koolpages.com/jornix/arprint/downloads.html
(do no bookmark downloads.html page since I'm going to delete it)
----
BTW to play .dat file just change the extintion from .dat to .mpg
or .mpeg
since the .dat is not standerd there are many .dat things
like allegro data file , raw data file ,.... etc
