Maya 7, the most proffesional 3D modeling and animation suite, is working very hapily on my FC4 Linux Box.
yesterday, i have installed it successfully and it works very smoothly...Oooo

khaled Why use this when you can use blender ? It is opensource and freely availible. And not illegal to dload/distribute/use/modify(opensource), I truly do not understand why you are doing this. nour aldeen , i'd recommend that you look at blender , and not install maya 7 (or otherwise) unless you actually own/purchased it.

I am not using it illegally at all, who said that ?...!!! ( very..strange)
But if you are working at a very Big Organization, and have everything
under your fingers, i mean the Top technology equipements, with millions of dollars, and all the proffesional software...you ever dream,...and part of your job to maintain and administer these devices ligally......what ? ...you got it !!!!!

One more time, we do not encourage people to use the Software illigally at all,
but we only want them to know whether a top Software package is
working well under a specific linux distribution or not, and whether there are
problems or not,...This will help the open source community, and will encourage more people to use Linux, and also prove that linux can do everything you need.

If you have searched this site quite well, you will see many posts i have already written about Blender....to encourage people to use it.
So, no big deal here !!!!!!!!!!!!

About the Crack, i gess you do not understand what i am exactly meant here ...
Simply, as you know, there is a crack for every piece of software ever developed, out there on the Internet, Maya is no exception....
But what surprized me is to find a crack for the linux version !!!!!!
I do not actually needs it, cause we have the Certified CDs.

One final word, i have used blender in productive works to create animation
and modeling, its a greate piece of software, that ran perfectely under linux long ago, but Maya is a different creature and it worth the money.

Guys, it is all about choice here. Use the application that best fits your needs, even if it costs you money, even if it is not open source, even if it is "NOT LINUX".

khaled I never said your use of maya was illegal. You where promoting it's illegal use though , by telling someone else that you would give them a crack and downloadable link to it. About access to equipment (software/hardware or otherwise) , I too have access to a incomrehensible amount of resources at the lab, from Alpha,x86,PowerPC,MIPS,IA64 (and others I'am sure I haven't mentioned), as well as many operating systems,open source or otherwise. If you would have posted something along the lines of Maya(version number/platform- would be linux obviously) , and stated what kernel version you used(since their are updates, as well as livna kernel packages , e.t.c.) , dependencies it requires (or if it's static and requires no shared libraries), X-server version e.t.c, then it would have been totally diffrent ,all you did was post a screenshot , and tell us it was running fine on your FC4 box(no information about dependencies, installing,dependencies, wether it was a full install, minimal, e.t.c.), then give someone details about a cracked version and that you will post information on howto retrieve this. I was pleased to see that maya runs well under linux , but displeased to see that you where willing to give people information (promote) the illegal use of it.I do not discourage commercial software on linux , some companys(alot) will not want to disclose source, the use of commercial software promotes interoperability, as well as boosting support (hardware/otherwise), but if you don't have the money , then why use it ?Mastering maya is not something you will fully achieve overnight. I'am sorry if i haven't searched posts pertaining to blender , that you made, but i'am not a supporter of cracked/illegal software promotion. I'am also aware of the power of Maya , it has been used in the development of many video games(polyphony used maya to develop Granturismo 3 and probably Granturismo 4 as well) , and movies, it is diffrent from blender , but i was just trying to give someone a more positive referal. That is my opinion I never said anything along the lines ,as to wether if it's not open source , don't use it. Myself personally I like UNIX(or UNIX like OS's) alot , OS X being very high on my list for one. But if you are going to pay for software, it better be superior, and you must have the right to own it (See microsofts EULA here if you don't know what i mean by own), I mean who would purchase a house , then purchase furniture and be told that they can only use the furniture, but can never own it (this is a big ethical matter).

Good night.. Can you read english ? I was trying to tell nour aldeen to use blender as opposed to a cracked version of Maya (Linux or otherwise). Why steal something when their is a excellent opensource/free alternative? All i was trying to state is that I was aware that Maya is a excellent program , but blender should be used by most people just due to the huge entry fee (price tag) required to use Maya(or atleast till they can afford Maya). You could have sent him a personal message for all i know (or care for that matter)relaying information(after your original reply to nour aldein). As a Industry professional as you claim to be , how can you go on so many international trips and still have such poor english(communication) skills , how will you communicate properly with english speaking people (in England obviously)? If you are supposed to be on the top of the egyptian computing/networking infrastructure with such poor english skills then i weep for the entire Egyptian computing/networking industry.And for the record scientists do not run servers, we call these people systems administrators (wich fall into the IT category) , scientists do research and development work (for the most part), big diffrence between someone who is a computer scientist and someone who does IT/Technology Management.
