View Full Version : Linux servers battle for enterprise recognition

uniball
Linux is working its way into datacenters and has great penetration as a Web server. The allure of the open-source OS is clear: Administrators can take a very inexpensive distribution, add assorted server software, apply all the necessary patches, configure the system for good security, and end up with a great enterprise server platform.

For those with less Linux experience or without the resources to pull everything together, several stable, secure enterprise server releases from the major Linux vendors are available. I recently tested four: Mandrake Linux ProSuite 9.1, Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server ES 2.1, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server, and Turbolinux Enterprise Server 8.

Mandrake Linux Prosuite 9.1 was rated first of all Linux distributions,
with a total score of 8.4/10:

Mandrake 8.4
Red Hat 7.9
SuSE 7.8
Turbolinux 7.6

Mandrake rules again.
BTW, i don't remember seeing a thread started by Uniball for a long a time now, maybe since his tutorial for displaying Arabic file names in kde and GNOME. ;)
We need more stuff like this, to keep up the morals!:D

It is very unprofessional review !!!
The man titled his articles as ( Linux servers battle for enterprise recognition ).
He mentioned the word ENTERPRISE.
Which enterprise would give its server administration for non-expert and non-professional admins ?? ( I don't speak about the local market)

Second, RedHat was the only distro to offer Clustering ( An enterprise requirement), and it didn't get points for that, although sometimes it might be the only deciding factor !!!

Third, who would care to see desktops on the servers ???
Oh man, Desktops are for desktops, not server farms and racks !!

After all, the review is not professional at all.

Nice reading however.
