View Full Version : high school students who wish to join CScollege

system_eyes
hello people,
well, all of us know that computer science college takes a very high marks 96%,
engineering college takes nearly 94%,

so i wonder have u ever thought in faqualty of science ??
science colllege has opened a new department called computer science, and as i know
science college takes 90% only,
so for all of you who loves the CS and didn't get high marks, i recommend to join this department;)

I mus warn you against faculty of science ein shams.
they have this very weird double major system where you have to study two topics if you don't get very very very high grades at the first years (all science faculties have this but ein shams' way is the worst).

so you get to choose between pure math/ computer science, and statistics / computer science etc.
which in itself is not a very bad idea since most applied science fields can use some extra computer knowledge but the real problem is that in ein shams you end up with more than 14 subject per semester.

yep thats right 14 and maybe more, the funny thing is that officialy you're only studying 7 or 8 subjects (which is still alot but that seems to be the norm in Egypt).

what they do is have one "Subject" split into two subjects with two different proffessors and at exam time you have only one exam but of course with two different papers on two different subjects, you don't get any breaks between the two papers and you get only 3 hours to finish.

if you fail in one of this subjects most liely you'll fail the whole "Subject", its even worse when you consider that they have "Subjects" that stretch over two semesters, so you get three subjects in one "Subject" each one of them can make you repeat the rest.

they way I see it if you need one week to cram for the final exam and you've got 14 subjects then you need 98 days to cram for final exams, thats the whole semester for you.
and as we all know cramming for exams teaches nothing so in the end you'll have no time to learn anything.

mind you not that you would have learned anything anyway even with the low standard of CS teaching in egypt science faculties (which are in general good at what they do) fail miserably at teaching CS, the proffesors never wrote and programs since they where students, they know absolutly nothing about modern CS issues (design patterns, OOP, OS design, cryptography, etc.).
again ein shams is even worse in that area, in one year you have the lectures in ADA and lab hours in C++

so my advice is if you're good at other science fields just study them and teach yourself CS it won't be the same as really majoring in CS but you'll get a good mind for reasoning and problem solving, you'll learn enough math to understand any CS subject they where going to teach you anyway and you'll save lots of money on aspirins.

cheers,
Alaa

hello man, actually i have fall from the chair laughing when reading ur words:D ,
well, u can think of me as ur grandmother, :D asl ana 7enaien awi:D .

yeah i dun post so much concerning linux, but i post so much concerning programming,

actually i am is about to finish MCSA [microsoft certified system administration] so , i guess it would be unfair to start again from the zero in another system {linux],
i hope u understand me,
buit there is no doubt that i am gonna study it someday;)

u won`t start from zero ! u already above the zero now , all what will happen that u will upgrade urself

basics r basics and u will find it is very similar in linux

just try :)

btw zero is postive integer value [ only maher would get this huh ;) ]

GUYS!...You're talking about Ash...f
The guy is ...........
Hope that you guys enjoy Bessel functions :)
Proving that zero is a positive integer was his MSc. thesis...or may be the PhD.
dunno exactly :)
