OneOfOne
i just installed a cvs snapshot (20040103) and it freakin owns!
first impressions :
1. loads faster than 3.1.4.
2. less memory usuage (although kopete is leaking like crap)
3. konq is MUCH MUCH faster.

Salamo 3alaikom,

I won't go for KDE even if it has a Ton of sugar on it though. :P

new screenshot with transparent gkrellm2, kicker, konsole and gtk-qt gtk-theme-engine to match my kde's color scheme.

i'll publish the color scheme shortly, it'll be called Dusky-Mud.

sorry KDE guys , but i still think that linux is more pwerfull in GNOME ..
kinda linux = Gnome 2 me ..
i know most of like KDE , but this s my view ..

alaa
no waay, GNU/Linux means doing things the proper Unix way, which means a desktop assembled of tiny independant components.

not a monolithic desktop with several daemons, object models, component models, and hundreds of wasted megabytes.

Gnome and KDE are abominations

cheers,
Alaa

Salamo 3alaikom,

I object to that last phrase. I guess Gnome is much less in weight if compared to KDE. Nevertheless both are heavy and they are really hard to load on older machines (my laptop for example).

Salam.

alaa
both are heavy for no good reason.

slamo 3alyko ..
well , i agree whith what habdin , that gnome is not heavy as kde is , and that s another point 4 gnome ,
or that s my openion ..

alaa
KDE is heavier than Gnome which is Heavier than XFCE which is heavier than running a custom desktop with only the components you need (even if you use components from these desktop environments).

anyway, its nice to have a wide range of choices :-)

Alaa

I recently tried FluxBox, I have to say it's amazing.

naaah you fluxbox sucks, you shoul try pekwm.

Hmmm, I'll give it try.

maher

alaa
just make sure to contact me when you do, there are a couple of things which are not obvious about pekwm (unless you read all the documentation).

and you should get a good theme before you do anything about it (the default one is very ugly).

From the screenies, I can barely wait to run it.

Compiling it...

Checking it....

Maher

alaa
hehehe you'll find its best feature is the configuration file parser :-)

I'm on IRC if you need any help

KDE 3.2.1 runs like a charm, on my PII 400, with 128 MB of SD RAM, kernel 2.6.1. The only bad thing about it is the disk space, but of course, there's nothing the developers could do about that. It is aftarall, a desktop environment, so occupying a couple of hundreds of MB's is very normal... KDE all the way!

alaa
just look at how much ram and CPU it eats one day.

and no there is alot they could do, other desktop environments take less space.

cheers,
Alaa
