i wanna an english-arabic, arabic-english dictionary Compatible with linux mandrake or any linux

I was thinking about coding one, but i didn't find a free "7or" dictionary.
I think that one of the arabeyes.org members is working -thankfully- on a full_word file
I'll see if i can use it.

But i don't think that there is any!

http://wiktionary.org aims to produce a world wide open content free dicitionary. The is zero arabic entries. Althogh there are lots well known and other artificial languages like Esperanto, Lojban and Interlingua.

yes there is a copyright 3ala el mawred.

since compiling a dictionary is a very big project I can only see three approaches to solve this problem.

either use a wiki to make one, but this needs a very large and active community which the arabs lack in just about anything of secular nature.

build a free dictionary engine (or even better modify an existing one to support arabic) then try to convince current dictionary publishers to sell data files for your project.
if this works out maybe later you can work on a free datafile.

finaly you can try to convince magma3 e loghat el 3arabeya to publish the mo3gam as a Free data file to your dictionary engine (this will not solve the english-arabic arabic-english problem but its a good start), you could just get their permission then search for volunteers to key in the data themselves (in a project guttenberg fashion)
you could also approach other entities like the ritsec/idsc or some university or some save the arabic languages NGO whatever.

el magma3 has several arabic-arabic dictionaries (mo3gam).
they maintain the mo3gam you got in thanaweya 3ama (which is probably public domain but we'll have to check), two bigger onces and some technical dictionaries.
so first thing is to find out if the stuff is already public domain.
if it isn't then we'll need to contact them and see if we can make a Free e-version, or if they'd be interested in funding a non free one that works on a free engine.

I only said its a good start, the mo3gam is more likley to be released in a free format than a commercialy owned dictionary.
