hi all that is my first thread in that fourm i found post ask for what is IDS and what it stand for IDS = Instruction Detection Systems
u can say its loike the fire wall abit but its be after the fire wall and monitor the activty of the network its usefull in detect the attacks specialy dDoS attacks there is commerical and not commerical i IDS i like e-thereal www.ethereal.com its have easy GUI and work in GREAT Linux and windows and its installed by defult in RedHat the idea od IDS in decode the packets and monitor the activity of users and intruders let`s say that attacker makeing a ddos in ur network and he use socket programing too so the firewall will accapt the packets coz the ip had bees spoofed in that case u need the IDS to see the packets that user send and its usefull to in networks security scans it be graet if u use it with anti spoofing systems IDS is mail tool in Honey net too
